What do you think of the Barbican?

fab? the last time i was there was around christmas with maestrocloud. it was sticky, overpriced, and generally quite unpleasant. which is a shame because i remembered it being a good pub once.

IIRC there were some quality barmaids though

I think it changed to a firkin. Luckily, the name "Shakespeare" is writ large in big ceramic tiles down the side, so they couldn't change the name to the tulip bulb and firkin or whatever. Before that, they used to keep the back doors open and people could spill out onto the paving on the golden lane estate. It's all closed up now.

We go to the trader on the other side of the estate, on whitecross street, which is a much better pub - husband and wife landlord team, wide range of customers, outside seating.

the handrails in the foyer of the barbican (theatre-y bit) always give me electric shocks. really bad ones. it makes me not want to go there.:(

I love the Barbican, great buildings, loads of interestingtuff to see/do, had my wedding reception in the garden room and conservatory there... it was great

i don't like the Barbican, i prefer the Kaliber

(actually, my mates have just taken over another Barbican pub, Sutton Arms, but i've not made it yet)

the one in carthusian st or gt sutton st (which is also near there)? If the latter, it could do with new ownership, the old ones were seriously moody fuckers
