What do you snack on?

Subversplat, I approve of your snacking... Heartily.

Also with olives and capers if they are around, and MUSTARD, king of all foods.

Ahh I remember when I had these great little Spanish things, olives, peppers, chillis, gherkins and silver onions all pickled on a toothpick, that was good snacking

I can't find anywhere to buy them here though so I'll have to make my own :)

I've only been up for 3 and a half hours though!

Yeah i do drink loads of water, just forgot to mention it.
Still doesn't sound like you've eaten a huge amount to me. And that's not just cos I need the extra energy from being out on my bike all day - I would eat more often if I was in an office job but in this job I tend to eat large amounts infrequently.

I've been up since 7.30 and between then and my last post I'd eaten a bowl of porridge, and a pretty big baguette full of hummous and sun dried tomatoes. Am still really hungry now - would have eaten a few bananas as well if I had any with me.

Exercise seems to stave off hunger for me - it's only when I'm sat down I get hungry (obviously that's the best time to eat anyway).

You said you've been doing a lot of exercise - in that case I am guessing your hunger is perfectly normal, especially if you only started exercising recently.

I just feel like a bit of a pig though, sitting at work munching and crunching constantly all day long, while everyone else in the office eats nothing but a sandwich or a bowl of soup for lunch.

They're freaks.

Nah, they probably just dont need as many calories as you. I just noticed you said youve recently increased the amount of exercise you do. I got massive hunger when my level of exercise increased. All I could think about was food. All I was aware of was my belly. Which is probably why I come close to crashing so often :D

I love to snack on pickles, especially gherkins (but i'll make do with pickled onions if needs be). They have so much flavour that a little bit gives you a big snack effect, and they're cheap, and they don't even have many calories

The snack of the gods

I had the sushi, but couldn't resist the hommous - so all that remains of £1.99 of sushi is the lingering afterburn of the wasabe ...

How long before the nuts ?

I used to just snack on chocolate but that's been banned due to high cholesterol. :(

So now I'm stuck with sultanas and rapidly getting bored of them. :(

It's true, pickles are the don.

Indeed. When I was a student I'd be the scary big jars of pickles from the Turkish shops and live of them. Pickles mixed in with noodles and tuna was the staple of my uni diet.

This has given me an almighty craving for pickles :D

e2a - other good pickle based snacking - those massive czech/polish jars with everything pickled, gherkin, cauliflower, pepper, spices, onion. Tasty.

I have a big jar of pickles with chilli at home. Sharp, crisp and a little hot. Loverlee!!

As for work I have fruit (plums and banana), a small handful of nuts (mixture of cashews, walnuts and brazils) and a packet of low-fat crisps :o

:p:p:p

one pickled garlic and some nuts later ...

Did you know that you can barely taste garlic after you've had wasabi ?

at work

I've just had a bounty

I also get these regularly: oaty biscuits (Hobnobs)

and I have a big bag of mixed nuts for when things get bad.

Far healthier to snack than to eat three meals a day.

That's what I was kind of told by the nutritionist when I was doing the fatigue management course - that a few snacks interspersed throughtout the day combined with three reasonably sized i.e. not to large meals, was good for energy levels.

At work, I keep nuts and dried apricots for snacking purposes.

At home it's usually toast.

Shiftyjunior is now hungry ALL the time, I can only imagine he is having a growth spurt. He snacks on fruit, nuts and seeds, rice pudding, dried fruit sometimes, oatcakes with peanut butter, oatcakes and hummous, quesilladas, marmite on toast if hes lucky, spelt bisuits if h's very very lucky, yogurts, cherry toms or veg sticks(sometimes with a dip sometimes not). I also give him a nice warm drinks like hot chocolate or ovaltine as they are quite filling and will see him through until next meal time.
When he is this hungry I like to give him somethign like floradix as an extra boost, my reasoning being he must need all the nutrition I can possibly squeeze into him if hes having a growth spurt. Must capitalise on the growth spurts :)
