Normally salt and vinegar, but I really love curry sauce. It's just that my tummy can't take that all the time.

I ask for 'a little bit of salt and LOADS of vinegar please'. The guy at my local chippie (who makes the best chips) said he was going to start charging me more for vinegar.

I even put more vinegar on when I get home..:)

The above is only on chip shop chips...on other chips such as fries I like a healthy soaking of mayo, ketchup or bbq sauce. On potato wedges i have sour cream.

so why do you put ketchup on then? I didn't realise you were such a masochist, although, living with him indoors kinda gives it away I guess...

Where is the grumpy fucker anyway?

no.

I have a bit of a self denial thing going re curry sauce actually. I want to smear the radioactive badness all over my plate of carbs but I don't let myself.

I can get (Chinese) tahini easily here so I might have to try a chinese vinegar-tahini-soy sauce combo next time we make chips . A similar combo goes on my favourite chinese noodles so it's probably teh delicious.

Mayo or soy sauce.

I thought the latter was just me but obv great minds think alike.
Or at least great minds maybe go to the chippy while really low on condiments and start experimenting.

No-one has mentioned this but my Dutch flat-mate used to have apple sauce on his chips. Apparently this is normal in Dutchland. He preferred french fries to our chunky chip shop type. Maybe it was an influence from Indonesia like the riestaffle (rice table) restaurants. Must try the tahini and mango chutney idea - esp if I've got HOT mango chutney.

I buy a lot of apple sauce - goes very well with sardines and mash ...

I may have a Pavlovian situation going on :)

I went and bought a tub of Bisto "Chip Shop Curry Sauce" the other day so I don't have to spend 90p (!!!) for a little tub of exactly the same stuff.

It's disgusting. :(

What sauce I have depends on what I am eating with the chips. Chip shop chips on their own then I have curry sauce but if I have fishcake or something then ketchup.

Homemade or oven chips then mayo and ketchup.

Heatsinks.

The best sauce for chips. Ideal for dip(switch)ing.
