Dishwashers are shit. They ruin your stuff & make things taste of salt. Unless they've moved on in the last few years!

<edit> I used to use brushes but now I use those sponge/plastic brillo thingys.

They really have come on. Everything comes out really clean and those Finish tablets have all sorts of protectors in them. I can't say I have noticed anything tasting of salt.

A kitchen minge.

yep, that's what we use

I put sponge scourer and then noticed dishwasher just as my vote was going through :o :(

I love my dishwasher. We do too much cooking to be able to cope with all the pots and pans by hand these days.

I was under the impression that dishwashers are better for the environment than washing up by hand due to the comparative costs of heating the water from the boiler (expensive) against in the dishwasher (cheaper). I haven't got one anymore though, just 4 different implements depending on what I'm washing up.

Just bought a dishwasher – I love it.

It's a very small dishwasher though, so I'm still handwashing some stuff. For that I use a scouring sponge and some Fairy Liquid.

I really really seriously HATE washing up!! So had my kitchen re-fitted to accommodate a dishwasher, a small slimline one (best thing since sliced bread) . Before that, it was ddraig when he's around :D

Yup, it is!

I think that's right, so long as the dishwasher is properly full before being used.

Would be interesting to know about the broader issues though, such as the energy & environmental damage incurred in building a dishwasher. Presumably there's a point in the life of a dishwasher before which it's cumulative environmental impact, from construction, transportation & use, exceeds that incurred from washing the same number of dishes by hand.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find you have to use a dishwater for quite a long time before it reaches parity.

i use a sponge scouring pad.
i also have a brush with a sucker pad and a scrubber with a hollow handle which you fill with washing up liquid.
i use a washing up bowl so i can pour away tea left in cups and rinse stuff off, it also takes up less water.

i gave up on wearing gloves and have trained my hands to go in boiling hot water

Should be multiple choice. I don't just use one thing, I use many different things depending on what I am washing up.

Probably why I didn't vote first time round :D

I know you have this option "Different things for different bits (brillo pad etc)" but it should be multiple choice!

Apart from the dishwasher, I use a rectangular brush with a rounded end, and a sponge with a brillo type effort one one side.

Incorrect.

That option covers it. :)

I'm gonna grass you up to fridgemagnet.

You know he blows a gasket every time someone resurrects an old thread. Shame on you! :hmm:
