what do people my age wear?

Get a cheap but good suit from a charity shop - then spend a bit of money at a tailors to get it taken in for you....can't go wrong with a suit ( unless you wear white socks with it )

you know, i'd really like a decent vintage suit. all you find in charity shops these days are shiny 80s things and cheap OAP blazers.

i've got a lovely velvet pinstripe blazer and a parachute regiment blazer too. i'd like the trousers to with each of them.

and some sort of edwardian shirt would be nice as well

:D

you should rock the rockabillyesque look, bluestreak. jeans with big turn-ups, brothel creepers, work shirts or bowling shirts, get yer hair cut a bit and have a nice quiff. it's the look i'm slowly moving towards, step-by-step.

although i'm bald so i'm making a papier-mache quiff

Why don't you go to one of the more expensive Central London charity shops if you want a decent suit? Worth a look although I dunno how expensive it might be....

edit: you looked good in that shirt you wore the night you came home to find me and your flatmates tripping on 2ci recently :) You also had your hair spiked up wolverine style which added to the fanciness of your look.

A good mate of mine has drifted into rockabilly style... he looks a total god in it!

What about Zara?

Definitely not expensive and from what I recall their men's section has pretty ok stuff, and some of the shirts even have pockets, am sure of it :)

I actually think that's really good advise.

For the vintage suit, you may get some luck in TopMan around Oxford Circus. IIRC sometimes they have vintage stuff like suits.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm not getting into the whole 80s/footless tights thing, that's for skinny teenagers. I just want to look vaguely interesting somehow. And as for what to do with my hair now I've got bored of extensions...

Well you might have to shell out a bit of extra cash then... It's not like you can't buy smart male fashion, it's just that it means going to Moss bros or something. I'd go for an opened collared shirt plus quite a loose fitting suit (the fashion now is for tight crotches which, imo, look shit) with some decent leather shoes. Pinstripe is a bit passe btw, unless you're going to a pool bar or something. For smart you really wanna go for the Johnny Depp look, dapper but with a manic edge...

I think for me I’m sort of concentrating on keeping it colourful… a lot of people don't really do colours and lively prints.

At my last workplace, a workmate commented on my ‘happy clothes’ :) – I like colours and patterns, and for me that’s a way of keeping things interesting and individual without going for a specific style.

I can see myself generally drifting in a bit of a ‘boho’ direction as I get older, although more a graphic, punky bohemian than a flowery, hippy one.

I have a horrible feeling I'm drifting towards social worker...

Last winter I went through an inexplicable cosy, bosomy matron/hippy phase - what was I thinking?

*makes mental note to chuck out burnt orange hairy cardigan*

I have to admit that my wardrobe has taken a distinct rockabilly turn of late. I actually bought a cowboy shirt. Me, a cowboy shirt, in color, not black.

I think for mens wear you can't go wrong with a well-tailored, single color suit. There are suit cuts that don't look like your grandfather.

How big are you, I've got a 3/4 length grey pinstripe very light to wear almost Edwardian/crombie ish jacket .
It's too small for me, but I can't throw it as it's too nice

If it fits you, you can have it

I'll do a photo
