What did you want to be when you grew up?

At 6ys old I had to write a little essay about what I wanted to be when I grew up, and read it out in a school assembly.

I confidently stated to the whole school that I was going to be the first "lady astronaut" and build a house on the moon!:D

I went back a few years ago, and my old Headmistress who was due to retire, showed me a file of stuff she'd collected over the years. All kinds of things, photos, agendas of special days, and childrens work, that sort of thing.

And there was a copy of my old essay.:o

As I was there to give a talk about the sort of work a nurse is involved in outside of hospital, I did ask her not to read it out before I stood up in front of the school.:D

Fireman! :D

I really wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer. I was so convinced that I would be one of the two that I chose latin as one of my options over French and German at 13. Really bloody regret that. I can tell you all about "Caecilius est in horto" but can't speak any bloody French on holiday!

I wanted to be an archeologist when I was 6... I used to read all my mum's uni old textbooks about Babylon and Egypt. Plus I liked using the big word and having a smarter idea than 'train driver' or 'nurse' or something.

i have a picture from when i was 5 at school titled 'when i grow up i want to be . . . ' and theres a picture of an ambulance person.

having manageable ambitions are shit.

for years my little bother wanted to be a gardener on normal days and a magician on special days :D

Between 10 & 14 I was convinced I was going to be a Speedway rider ! But convincing my Dad to buy me a machine to practice on proved a tad trickier  :(

When I was about five or six we had to draw a picture of what we wanted to be when we grew up.

I did a picture of a group of fireman putting out a burning house - but one of them was around the back with a box of matches...

I wanted to be a vet and then later a writer/journalist (well, actually I didn't want to be a writer that much but was pushed in that direction by mum and school because I was a very prolific writer from a very early age - somehow I got brainwashed into thinking that's what I wanted to do  )

What I really remember is wanting to be a farmer, after spending a long summer in a farm at the age of 10, I still think I'd be happy working in a small farm to this day - I really like doing physical work and hate sitting on my desk all day. I really like being around animals and plants.

:D

As a kid I wanted to be a zoologist and study gorillas....or be a wildlife camerawoman....and then later on I wanted to be a bassist or folk violinist or techno producer!

Now I realise that those require a bit more initiative and drive than I actually HAVE :D

So am happy just to bimble now..though I do sometimes dream of being an overland truck mechanic or helicopter pilot....

depends. the first thing i can remember telling people i wanted to be was either a paleontologist or a junk-yard owner. then i wanted to be a musician or a writer. not a lot has changed really.

That's just reminded me: when I was 17, a tutor once asked us all where we saw ourselves in the future.

I said: in the middle of a junkyard, surrounded by mountains of rusting cars.

 :o :D

I wanted to be a copper when I was young. :D I gave up on that idea long time ago..

then I wanted to be a professional boxer, but fucked that up. Thought then, hmmm carpenter would be good, tried it, didn't like it.. then thought I want to be a sailor, tried that... wasn't for me.

Moved onto wanting to be a brickie/builder... enjoyed when I was, but wanted something less physical so thought IT was the way forward, been in the IT game over 11 years and only now am I getting itchy feet.

Now I want to own a pub/restaurant in the country some where... so that's what mrs1798 and I are working towards at the moment. fingers crosses it'll happen in 2011.

So I guess bar man is what I'll be when I eventually grow up.
