My skin is a sort of beigey pink.

PS: By the 2001 census, 'most' people in Brixton are not black.

And IME more black people have left Brixton than joined the area since then, (yeh it's purely anecdotal no links here!) property prices sky rocketing and people getting much for their buck in place like The Norwoods, Croydon, Thornton Heath and further afield have helped people relocate massively. :)

Yes, but the OP considers this to be out of date
I was under the impression that the 'common knowledge' was that the black population of brixton is being pushed further south to streatham etc by white m/c and eastern europeans. I'll bet that the 2011 census tells an even 'whiter' story.

It's pretty common knowledge that Brixton has a minority of blacks and a majority of whites too...or at least I thought so! :hmm::D

Turquoise. Egg yolk yellow. Salmon pink.

Only turquoise is my favourite - the others are just my colours.

My skin is yellowy

still a *large* minority. depends on how you slice it up, though. the 2001 figures are out of date, but the trend is definitely whitewards. I've only been here 6 years, but I've seen a visible change, just walking down the street.

I think the OP is confusing a large minority (compared to other areas) with a large majority - something many idiots tend to do.

but i know you chaps are all lovely, reasonable folk - maybe the op doesn't, so let's assure him/her:

If you can provide a link to reasonable (ie, not BNP data) which shows that contrary to the 2001 census, white people are no longer a majority in brixton, and/or that the population who identify as black are now in the majority, we'll be happy to be corrected.:)

Seriously, what are racial survey data good for anway? Why not record people's religious, linguistic, national and socioeconomic data instead of skin colour? Why is there a question about the colour of your skin on every HR form every time you get a new job? Who made it so that skin colour became an important official, "scientific" personal identifier, when, from a proper scientific perspective, skin colour is mostly of interest to dermatologists and people in related areas?

well they do record all that information as well, but skin colour has been made important by stupid people throughtout history, so the idea has a lot of inertia, unfortunately :(

EDIT: reply to truxta. I have to remember to use quotes :o

Can't be arsed to read this thread but there's lots of people that are mixed race. I assume we come under "other"?

Twat

I'm going to go to bed now, but I doubt I'll sleep because I'm perpetually worried about urban75 not accurately reflecting the ethnic makeup of its hometown. If anybody could let me know of a Brixton online community/website/thing that does, please let me know because tbh, it's affecting my work and my sex life. Thank you :(

 & OP

After the General forum, Brixton surely must be the forum that attracts the most 'weird' types, by a long way.

Bizarre...

Or maybe not.
