good points
lots of room for 3 car seats
massive boot
high spec

bad points
only tossers drive them

next up is the jag x type

good points
drives well
i've always liked jags

bad points
it's really a ford mondeo
whiff of the golf club about it

last option is the x type estate

good points
looks better than the saloon IMO

bad points
i dont need an estate

all these cars cost about the same. but i'm finding it hard to decide. do i go for the bling of the chrysler or the smooth jag?

hhahaa hAHha H hHA ha....he'll be lucky if it lasts 60,000 miles. its common knowledge in Detroit that Chryslers are pieces of junk.

You don't think I was taking the piss???

Buy the Jag of course, none of that american shit.

Incidentally, why are the Chryslers the common Taxi choice if they are that unreliable?

Anything as a taxi in a large US Metro will be fucked in a 3 yrs period. They don't give a shit about that.
I suspect big city taxi operations get huge discounts from fleet buying a particular vehicle - manufac's are probably falling over themselves to grab the contracts for their new range of large saloons to get them seen on the street.
Prolly the same with big Mercs in Germany (notice you hardly ever see the big BM's or Audi's as taxi's there)

Oh, to the OP: Get the Chrysler shit bucket if you also fancy pretty much zero rear vision for parking etc.
Mate's got one of those Jag estates - not my cup of tea, but they're very nice.

Why not go for the new Mondeo?

Looks nice, well equipped and probably more reliable than the other two...

In fact, if it was me I would get an Audi A4 or A6 avant over any of the above any day of the week.

Much better made and much better looking.

Do some cracking diesels too if economy is a concern and some great performance versions if it isn't.

^^

This, a couple of people I know with X-types have had a fair bit of trouble with them, not the most bulletproof of cars nowadays.

that chrysler looks a bit like a 'bentley' knock off. I'd steer well clear (excuse the pun)

i agree with others, if you have that sort of budget for a new motor there is quite a few things i'd get ahead of the x-type for sure. Having said that, depends whether your gettin one 'brand spanky' new or not.

... or get 3 reallllly good bicycles and save the trees!! :D

The Chrysler is fucking hideous, a great big lump of shit on tyres. Plus, that famous US build quality.

Unfortunately, the X is a Mondeo in a (not-very-expensive) suit.

Fuck all of those, get something good.

:)

Yep.
I'm on my 2nd A6 avant (well, 1st one was a '94 100 avant). Current one is 2001 and doesn't have a thing wrong with it, only thing that's ever happened is the water pump went about a year ago.
Cavernous, quiet & loaded interior & drives smooth as silk - superb long distance cruiser.
Only con is that in the unlikely event of a major problem, Audi's ain't cheap.
New Passat's are very impressive as well.

Am pissed off that I can't get the R36 Passat Estate in this country - only the saloon.

Would have been my next car if they did...

:(

One day though:

Well if you're looking at those hideous Chyrsler 300s, then this would be in your price range, and has far more style than all of your first choices.

BMW 525d :) Plenty fast enough too.

Don't go for the X-Type, they're not Jags.

I wouldn't choose any of them, personally. I'd pick up a nearly-new Merc E class diesel estate packed to rafters with features and laugh all the way to the bank. A BMW 5 series would be second choice.

Tossers drive X Types. Fact.

I don't really want an estate but the x type estate is nicer than the saloon . the 525 and A6 are both excellent but outside my price range

so i'm a bit lost for ideas at the moment

Well I've just looked on Autotrader and you could get some really nice VW Phaetons, V6 4-Motions with low mileage from anything from 8-16k. There's one on there with 24k on the clock for £13,000. They're so much more throught the VW main agents.

A lot of luxury kit for not a lot of money, and there aren't many around. :)

*edited for added picture*

i had a look. only one fits my fussy criteria - less than 20,000 miles, less than 3 years old

and its £19990, right at the very top of my budget
here

depends how much i get my for my saab as well

i need to check whether it has all the gadgets i want. i like gadgets :)

probably will as its a phaeton
