what car do you drive?

one of these

except mine is actually a diesil (last owner lobbed the m5 mirrors on but the rest of the sports trim is factory fitted)

and one of these:

in a fetching blue and optional mud trim

You could probably pick one up for about 5p... ;)

Indeed - if you can find one. The 400-series Volvos weren't nearly as well screwed together as the big ones, or even the 300s. Even 25-year-old 240s are still common, but how many 400s do you see these days...?

a fiat panda - company pays for it

good on juice, economic, nippy, slow as fuck to get up to 60 but beyond that and it flies. Fucking dead in milliseconds if I ever crash at high speed though

Virtually none. Mind you, with the 440s and 460s, no one wants them anyway, and the 480s are a bit of a curio, which never sold many in the first place.

Course, they're awful to drive anyway. Sort of like a sports van! :D

I've known people who loved them, too. There's a smiley for that, now...

:hmm:

The one I tried to sell was horrid, awful heavy steering, spongy brakes (after changing everything), lumpen auto, dull interior. Surprisingly, no one wanted it. I wish you'd been around then... ;)

Mind you, I may be slightly prejudiced towards Volvos based on the fact I initially had my driving practice in a D-reg 340DL.

Heh. I did a fair few miles in a 340 some years ago, also a D-reg. It was a reasonable car in most respects. The problem with it was that it was the automatic, which had the infamous rubber-band transmission, and it was elderly and starting to slip. I've driven a manual one since then and it was fine, and surprisingly well balanced thanks to the transaxle, although the suspension is far too soft. Apparently, with stiffer springs and dampers they can be made to handle very well, and two-litre version is pretty nippy. They're becoming increasingly popular as track-day cars, since they're rear-drive and dirt cheap to buy. The 340/360 isn't a sports car, but I don't think it's nearly so bad a car as people make out. It's just a fasionable car for the Clarksons of the world to sneer at.

2002 volvo s40. I fuckin love it Its got a nice set of alloys, a nice subtle boot spoiler and is finished in silver (not highly original but smart all the same) oh and its proper comfy :)

I have a black Saab 900 convertible. I like it and people take me seriously when I'm driving it.
In the past, among other cars, I've had three 2CVs. I love 2CVs and would love another but just as a fun car. Although it wasn't funny the day the police diverted me off the road and into a lane full of a travellers convoy because they assumed I was a fecking hippy

'88 E30 325i Touring, with all the toys, BBS alloys, leather, M-tech goodies & being sorely missed.

'92 Honda NTV 600-M, beaten, bruised, bashed, but will not die:

Now, where have I seen that car before  I swear I've driven it once or twice before ;)

You don't say? :D

Seeing as I'm busted, here's what I'll be driving shortly (when I can get my arse into gear and go pick it up, that is)...

Yeah, I don't think any of that's unfair, tbh. It was a bit imposing for a leaner, in that it's kind of similar to what I imagine driving a canal boat is like, but it was a great car, much loved and abused and cheap as chips, so there's a balance.

As the photo above shows, I've now abandoned all sense of cool when it comes to cars, anyhow. :D

Excellent choice.

I had a '97 C280 Elegance for about 5 years. Probably the best put together car
I've ever had, nothing went wrong. Ever.

Edit> Except for little cunts breaking the bonnet star off every couple of months. I gave up replacing it after I'd bought 3!

Ford Fiesta. Am now looking up prices for a Capri after that post on the first page!

(would probably kill for an original Quattro mind you)

I've got a e36 316 too! never thought to take a picture of it though, is yours the compact one? mines a metallic blue coupe with a dated grey interior and nearly 130,000 miles.

Yeah, mine is the compact (it's the one in the picture, actually).

Best car I've ever driven.

Well, it's only a 180 (and a 4-speed auto to boot), so it'll be pedestrian, but it's neat and tidy, very well looked after and free, so I won't complain.

It'd be nice if it lasted, though. :)

I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these though:

Newer model of the one I have. Not sure about the headlights though, although I suppose I shouldn't let that put me off

Just lessens the mean, BMW look I'm so fond of.

1990 Camry. £400 off ebay, 60,000 miles, FSH, always garaged. A bit thirsty, but cheap as chips and bullet-proof. Must be 10 years since I wasted more than £500 on a car. Ah, the foolishness of youth. Girlfriend's Datsun is worth more :D
