What can I do with my vinyl?

On a similar subject how do I 'digitalise' video?

I have a tape of Mr madz and the site crew from a local festie doing a Full Monty type dance for a fundraising cabaret I organised. I'd like to upload it to youtube.

Just get an old record player from a car boot sale, probably won't cost more than about a tenner.

My dad's a proper nut about pooters - he knows shitloads - he's got his entire vinyl collection on CD and HD and has DVDed all his vids - even downloaded the covers and printed them out.

USB turntables are crap, tinny sound and no depth.

Use a decent weighted deck and new headshell/stylus and convert them to MP3/wav/aif files using a good pre-amp and soundcard.

Get yourself a Bush MTT1 turntable. £50 from Richer Sounds, cheaper if you hunt around the web.
Reviews of it are universally excellent. It’s got a pre-amp in it, this means that you can plug it straight into the back of your PC with the aid of a “stereo jack to Phono splitter” which spilts a single stereo 3.5mm jack plug into 2 female phono sockets (£3.99 from Tandy).
I use Total Recorder to grab the sound off the sound card, it’ll save as pretty much whatever you can think of (.wav, mp3, ogg etc)
Audacity will enable you to cut up the Side1.mp3 into individual tracks.Tag&Rename is invaluable for creating the ID tags.
ADB recommends Fairy Liquid and warm water for cleaning purposes.

Troubling issue isn't it?

I have a LOT of vinyl but it never gets played.
It would be cheap and easy to sort out a deck but I have little space and use my PC as a media centre.

I am leaning towards the USB option but it is not high on my list of priorities. I think I will transfer a few important ones then find a good home for the rest.

The REALLY important one will be WALL MOUNTED and kept.

:)

I use the same turntable (with home-made connectors) into my PC's soundcard and onto Nero Wave Editor.

Free trial versions of SoundForge are good for converting vinyl into digital

You also need
1.turntable
2.pre-amp (mixer)
3.jack to connect mixer to PC.

Was also able to use the same set up to convert tapes into digital.

You can take the headphone out put of a stereo to a creative player/recorder or stick it straight into your Mac.

I have a scratchy mud caked white riot too.

I thought you hated the clash or am I confusing you with someone else

No you are correct, I do indeed hate the clash. I sort of let white riot and 1977 off. Well I had a period of letting them off, they both sound well pussy these days, even caked in mud and wire woolled (I was trying to make them sound better)

Listen, I'm 42 and I'll bloody well listen to the Clash if I want to OK??!! I also have loads of Adam and the Ants before they were 'Adam and the Ants' - wanna make something of that?

Anyway, it's less to do with the actual music and more to do with the associated memories. Wondering if Fiona Gray would dob on us for being in the Millhouse cafe listening to White Riot on the jukebox instead of being in double French....that sort of thing :D

put a request onto your local freecycle?
I hate doing wanted's :o :(

I've got to go into town in a while so i'll check the junk shops etc. If all else fails I've got a techie friend who works at the local theatre - he might do it for me :) The thing I really want to listen to is a recording of me when I was aboiut 2. They had a make your own record machine at the station and my mum took me in and made a little recording. It's weird listening to me with a broads scots accent
