What are the must have albums of 2005?

Iam said:
"I am the last black astronaut to walk the grey moon, from my air ballon"
And that's genius?

What about Eurovision Song Contest 2005 (compilation)?

I'm enjoying New Model Army's Carnival. But I wouldn't claim it was genius. :D

Thee More Shallows - More Deep Cuts

And maybe the new 65 Days of Static album when it comes out...

Apart from that - its been a pretty shit year for music.

Is the Arcade Fire, M.I.A. and The Rakes the best we can fucking do?

Oh Mr Priest - until this moment I had the utmost respect for your musical tastes......tastes that seemed to overlap on many levels with my own.

But this?

bleh.

With the sole exception of the truly excellent "Hounds of Love" cover, the Futureheads smell of wee, as does the rest of their album and anything that any members of the Futureheads may have touched because when they touch stuff the wee smell comes off and makes the things that they have touched smell of wee.
But it's only 35 minutes long...and contains 15 tracks...and it's all fast and angular...and it's got lots of noisy guitars on it...it's exciting! It's like 1979 again! :) (Not that I bought too many post punk albums when I was 7, sadly...)

My two favourite albums of the year so far have to be:

..and you will know us by the trail of dead - "Worlds Apart"
Gorillaz - "Demon Days" (never thought I would be saying that, but it really is a great album)

erm....and everything else I bought this year was old.
I'm gradually warming to Gorillaz as I have to concede the greatness of 'Feel Good Inc' and 'Dare', although I've always felt a bit put off by that Albarn fellow's insistence to hide his contributions behind 12-year-old animated females while sounding unmistakeably like that bloke out of Blur... :D

Listening to it now...

It's good. Nice tracks. Cool production. But its not great. Youknowwhahtimean?

Julian Cope - Citizen Cain'd
mm, something else that came out really early this year and I have nbow almost forgotten about.
Shellac - new album, well, it will be out this year, Steve promised, and he never lies to us does he?

oh yeah - theres The Kills - No Wow, and Beck's Guero.

Yet another vote for Busdriver - Fear of a black tangent.

One one for The Mitchell Brothers - A breath of fresh attire.

i'd like to add lcd soundsystem's album to the list. that's not half bad either.

cassetteboy's inside a whale's cock is worth a listen too.

i think this year has been a great year for music. one of the best EVER!

i could prove it but i can't be arsed right now.

As far as I'm conerned that was a diminished pile of wank from a formerly great talent. :( Long live 'Odelay'.
really??!! Not as good as Sea Change, but still masterful I thought.

Well, when I first heard 'Sea Change' I was a touch nonplussed, but it very gradually grew with time...oh well, maybe this one will too...?

Willy Mason - Where the Humans Eat. Loved his EP and this is even better...a few duffers, but generally a lovely piece of work. Also did a stunning Woodie Guthrie cover when I saw him live

Certainly 10 million times better than the Blunt/Powter wank that people seem to be lapping up. Probably nto pretty enough or summat.

I'd go with Arcade Fire and Clor, also:

Jamie Lidell - Multiply
Kate Rusby - The Girl Who Couldn't Fly
Jesu - Jesu
Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn (think that was this year!)

My favourite four so far are probably...

1. Gorillaz - Demon Days
2. Interpol - Antics
3. M.I.A. – Arular
4. Kraftwerk – Minimum, Maximum

Looking forward to the new Fall and Franz Ferdinand albums, too.

I'm going to say magic numbers and the Anthony and The Johnsons one, just to even it out a bit from the 'Worst albums' thread. And cos they're both great albums. :)

No, that's the embarrassing one to be singing in the supermarket. And spectacularly, it's not the only lyric on the record...

But the song's fucking amazing so, :p

My favourite record of the year so far is Kerri Chandler's Bar A Thyme - not so sure about albums - will give it some thought

yep anthony and the johnson's really moistens my gussets.

jamie lidell too is pretty damn good.

the go! team, pendulum, bloc party are all stayers on my decks as well.
did the dresden dolls release their album this year? that rocks my world.
