what are the most pressing issues facing the working class in britain?

i suggest an apology & retraction's in order.

for a so-called socialist (and, i'd expect, someone who's paid lip-service to gay rights in the past), it's interesting that the insult you leap for is a homophobick one. i suppose that in the circles in which you move, such an epithet's acceptable. but i'm surprised & disappointed to see you plunge so low in yr ire.

You see you've used that surprised and dissapointed line before and you and i know i would apologise to anyone else for my comments. yet as you request an apology you throw a barb about my circles. so in no way do i feel obliged to you of all people to apologise to. let emnity reign.

Hang on, you make dodgy comments about Indians all being shopkeepers (or was that the other way around!) and that's a joke, a marxist lowers the tone in repplying to you and he has to apologise. Bollox to that.

that kind of homophobic insult is definitely against the posting rules and indeed the ethos of the boards - please retract it Flypanam

i retract then. but i do think PM shoulkd have a look at the way he relates to people on these boards.

however if you think its better to ban me please do.

Is the Indian shopkeepers crap allowed then?

no, you said that anarchism was "a corner-shop mentality", clearly implying that corner shops, famously run by people from the sub-continent, are dens of anarchist iniquity. when i pulled you up on this, you clearly suggested that islamophobia's rife amongst indians.

and without any help flypanam thought it would be big & clever to bring out the homophobick insults.

How about lack of effective democracy or political representation?

Not as immediately important as cost of living, housing and quality of life issues, but it still seems to really rankle with a lot of people that I know.

Pickman, England is famoulsy a nation of shopkeepers. My comment was sociological not racial, that you chose to make that racial generalisation is your hang up. And I thought it was just muslims you had a problem with.

take it easy, turd burgler.too many  and you'll give urself a heart attack
Any chance of you advancing past age 10 in the insults dept?

Homophobic insults aren't big and they're not clever.

tsk. Does no-one listen to what we're told?

terrorism is the greatest issue facing all of us!

look under your bed now, just to be sure.

Rights
We have campaigned actively for the right to divorce without huge financial penalties, a woman's right to choose, and for the right of gay people to live without discrimination.
http://www.swp.ie/html/oppression.htm

they've campaigned for lbg rights without you, obviously. fucking homophobick twat.

an apology from you would be unlikely to be worth anything, as you and integrity are doubtless very distant cousins. i'm curious, though, why you think that it's acceptable to bandy about insults based about sexuality.

so, flypanam, why did you reach for that foul insult?

That was a piss-take, I doubt it was ever true? I think you'll find England is a 'nation of homeowners' now.

True as that may be, it's not germane to his lack of an iota of politics. 'communism is selfish'!!! Only ana anarchist moron could say that.

of course communism is selfish for most communists - i didnt become one because i felt sorry for poor brown people on the other side of the planet - we've got live aid/8 for that. i became a communist because i want a better life for myself, my friends, family, and workmates - and the best way to achieve that imo is through struggle and solidarity locally and internationally.

when it comes to supporting workers in other countries and indeed fighting for a libertarian communist society at home, i and others find it much easier if we don't have to worry about the roof over our heads and the food in our cupboards.

if working class people in this country didnt have to worry about housing, debt, work, and pensions so much we'd have more time to devote to international solidarity and to further reaching struggle in this country

Bollocks. :)

Every working class parent wants their child to do better than they did.

Each individual wants to improve themselves, it is natural. And that urge is more pronounced if you're born into a working class family.

Nobody venerates or aspires to live a working class life with all it entails - except perhaps some left wing educated middle class people.

I aspire to a classless life, with 'where you're born' not being a priviledge for some.

firstly, it was one napoleon bonaparte who said that england was a nation of shopkeepers. i for one wouldn't go to a dead corsican emperor and sometime artilleryman for my sociological insights. you would - but then yr all over the place.

secondly, this is a thread about the working class in britain. that you choose to identify britain with england, and omit scotland, wales or that part of ireland currently part of this country is, of course, a matter for you. you may wish, of course, to think again.

Im in Morrocco Marakech and have had to hide in an internet cafe as Morroccans are a nation of shop keepers that keep pecking my head in.

more like a buzz saw

They have this thing called a souq its like an extreme sports market, with live fights an all.
sounds like north finchley bus station, where there was a free live fight every friday night. no shopkeepers involved, though, afaik.

rank these in order of your priorities (not a poll sorry)

1.housing
2.income/expenditure (wages, benefits,pensions, taxes etc)
3.racism
4.war
5.debt
6.hospitals/healthcare
7.billboards
8.schools/education
9.religeous discrimination
10.defending asylum seekers
11.the berlinner guardian
12.crime
Most working class people I meet are more interested in attacking asylum seekers than defending them.

Housing and income/debt are up there too.

what about rearranging the deck-chairs in liberal-fascist papers?

thank you for pointing out a typographical error in my post. i have duly changed it to suit my intended meaning.

The lucky bastards, eh?

This is a Menshevik argument, isn't it?

if working class people in this country didnt have to worry about housing, debt, work, and pensions so much we'd have more time to devote to international solidarity and to further reaching struggle in this country
And when you become a foreman, I'm sure you'll do well by your former comrades.

Have none of your workmates got "poor brown" relatives in other parts of the world. Fuck 'em? How on earth do those immigrants who come here lowering our wages manage to support their kin in far off places? I have a suspicion you don't want internationalism, you want a bigger slice of the capitalist pie.
