What are the best socks then?

Get one of these instead and don't wear any:

Hogg's woollen socks from the local farmer's shop. Keep your feet warm but they're £6 a pair. Atm I'm wearing a pair of long navy fishermans's socks which I got from a charity shop for 50 p, pretty comfortable :).

On geminisnake's recommendation I have now purchased a pair of these:

The "Hoggs Of Fife Adventure Long Sock" no less. Just this side of nine quid inc P&P.

If you like them let me know and I'll check what price they are at the farmers shop next time I'm in Forfar. Might be cheaper than getting them online.
I like them a lot, thank you. Very very comfy indeed. I'll give you a shout if I need some more. Only minor criticism is that their large (size 7-11) is a bit little. I'm a 9.5 normally and these fit me snugly. If I had size 11 feet they'd be too small, I bet. But very nice socks other than that, lots of padding round the soles and ankles and what-have-you.

I like Uniqlo knee-length heat tech socks in the winter. Must stock up before they disappear.

My goat socks are still good after all this time. Don't think I've ever found such hard wearing socks before.

M&S do some really nice socks with silver in them

They're meant to prevent foot odour and as I do lots of sports I thought I'd try them. they are really, really comfy, not too thick, not too thin and I'm only buying them from now on. Apart from sealskinz for training outside in the rain.

They only do them in mens' sizes though, fine for me as I'm size 9

:)

husband will only buy these socks. has done for years.
