What are the best socks then?

I always used to go with M&S as they had a range of decent 95% cotton 5% lycra sports socks, but I'm getting on pretty well with Pringle's socks now. They cater to those of us with super-sized feet, but unlike M&S they don't impregnate them with toxic biocides.

As with many premium brands, they sell stuff at a number of price points.

Their scottish-made lambswool jumpers are expensive, their chinese made cotton socks are not.

Dude, where have you been? Pretty much all the long established british brands make the bulk of their products in the far east, and have done for several decades.

Doesn't mean to say that I have to approve; it's just very sad that the goods from an old established British brand is made in China,
Both John Smedley and Panthella are UK made, although previously a UK company I am not sure where Duchamp's are made'
I know other UK sock makers also exist.

These were 3 for a tenner. My socks usually last about 8-10 years so that's pretty cheap/pa.

I've never previously considered either brand before now but may well do so in the future. I do have a few pairs of Duchamp but more importantly, I can't see myself buying socks for a long time, besides I only ever wear socks if I go out, which helps.

I think if you're going to make sad faces at established british brands being made in the far east, you should really start from the position of actually supporting businesses which make their stuff here.

I did say earlier I wasn't sure. It's shit on how the majority of stuff we buy in the UK is made in dodgy conditions with dodgy practices etc. In places like China.

My concern would be that the "Middle Layer - 100% Hydrophilic Membrane" contains high levels of PFAS - the dreaded forever chemicals that seep into the body and likely disrupt things, and that you also find in teflon non-stick pans, baking paper and waterproof clothing.

I have a pair for mountain biking and they are good. The first pair I bought were short, that was bad. The long ones are ace, ride through fords up to my knees and my feet stay dry. They feel cold, but dry. Often wear a pair or regular socks underneath them.

I used to have some Bridgedale socks that were probably a few decades old when I nicked them from my mum's old house but had barely been worn. They were the best socks ever and I pretty much lived in them all winter. Just thick, warm, plain wool-coloured socks. Bridgedale socks now seem to be all bright colours and made with technology. Where can I get some socks like the ones I used to have?

Bridgedale Trekkers are still great. I bought a couple of pairs for my girlfriend last year.

I have a pair of Bridgedale Endurance Trekkers which I've had for 25 years, and they are still wearable.
