whaddaya growing? (PICS!!!)

My first foray into gardening

RIGHT. What I optimistically call my garden:

This is the view from my back door. To the left are gladioli (not flowered yet), at the back is a dahlia (and an unhappy looking aquilegia :o) and a clematis in the pot. I think it flowered before I bought it.
I can't remember what's in the troughs on the balcony.

My dahlia :) anyone know what those holes in the petals are from?

My hoverfly forest
I haven't got a fucking clue what I put in here. I know I planted some anemones but they haven't flowered yet. BTW that black thing at the end is the solar panel for some fairy lights! I'm going to water it in a minute before anyone nags me.

Close-up for anyone who can shed some light on what these are

I got this for 20p in Homebase when it was all bruck and dead. That I appear to have revived it is a miracle in more ways than one, believe me. I can't remember what it is.

Your hoverfly forest is Love-In-A-Mist and cornflowers (the blue flowers in the pic above) and other stuff I've forgotten about.

OK, fairy nuff :)

e2a: that purpley one is a gorgeous colour

I want my gladioli to flower 1) for the flowers obviously, and 2) so I can pull up any in colours I don't approve of and make room for an ornamental sweet pea. Anyone know when it's likely to happen?

BTW fellow flat-dwellers, I got the tubs from Ikea (the kid's section) and plunged a hot knife into them for drainage and fun. It cost me about five quid, and they fit the space better than expensive as fuck ones I was looking at in garden centres.

Also, at some point I'm going to make kind of zinc covers for the terracotta coloured troughs, maybe paint the brickwork white, and put mirror tiles on the concrete wall so it looks a bit posher.

Pip got loads of seeds in Lidl and I gave her a few that were possibly mislabelled sweet peas. I don't think I gave her Matucana, the leaves look wrong, it might have been a sweet pea I got free from a seed catalogue :o

About those :hmm: I tried to untangle them and a few days later they all died. They definitely weren't sweet peas btw.

The seeds were definitely lathyrus (sweet peas) of some sort. I'm good at identifying seeds, me.

Also we planted your Glads well late, so probably next May/June for the flowers. It will be worth the wait, I promise.

Soz, I meant definitely not ornamental. The flowers were white, and petals were really thin and tiny.

I went and had a look and it's some kind of risen from the dead zombie pea

Scuse the mucky fingers, but I've been in the garden dontchaknow
