I can't say I've a problem with it. You get what you pay for to a certain extent, and as has been pointed out you can pay far more for the same sort of fare at other pubs.
I agree: it doesn't take a chef to prepare 'Spoon grub; it's all produced at some central location, distributed to their various outlets and microwaved to order. Their nachos, on the other hand, are probably 'prepared' on site...as there's nothing particularly difficult about throwing some corn chips on a plate and smothering them with sour cream, salsa and cheese (but where are the refried beans?).
I don't see anything inherently wrong with getting someone else to ding your microwaved meal for you.

it's just the waterhouse. last went a few months ago and they'd taken on new staff who didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. Not been back since.is this the same across the whole spooney empire or just a one off at this particular pub (waterhouse manchester)
they do a good breakfast. Don't see how you can microwave an egg

lAs for the breakfast, it usually all gets microwaved / grilled (apart from the eggs and hash browns) first thing and then you just take what you need out of the hot holding unit when someone orders something. The sausages taste shite ater sitting in there for 30mins.

Plate. Scatter cheese, guacomole gun squirted onto plate, then sour cream. In convection oven for a minutes or two.
The one thing I'd say about Wetherspoons is that I'd regard their burgers as better than the steaks. They're British beef as opposed to Zebu (the only exception being the luxury ribeye) and come repulsively shrinkwrapped and ready sized in individual portions in protective atmospheres. They're bearable , but the meat's poor quality ime.
I'm not as opposed to their micro meals as some are. They taste fine afaic - their chicken alfredo was once better than any quick pasta dish from M&S. No idea of the quality of most of the choices now, but I don't see anything inherently wrong with getting someone else to ding your microwaved meal for you. It's often thrown in largely at near loss leader rates, trying to get you to drink a bit more.
I don't think anyone's claiming it's gourmet Nino. It may be simple grill and ready prepared bargain basement stuff at Wetherspoons, but it's not that much different from other pub chains and a lot of restaurants. People who have strong feelings about the grub there slightly surprise me - it's average and not that distinctive.
I merely said that Wetherspoons isn't the place for gourmet food nor, for that matter, is Nando's, McDonalds or Pizza Hut and one gets what one pays for.
Dear Customer,
Horsemeat continues to be in the news and is a concern for people. I thought you might appreciate an update on what we have been doing.
As requested by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) our suppliers are undertaking independent DNA testing. In addition to this we commissioned an independent laboratory to complete tests for the presence of equine DNA in all beef and lamb products that we sell. Tests have been completed on 29 different menu items and all the results have been negative.
At Wetherspoon the quality of the food that we serve to our customers is important to us. Uniquely for the pub industry we have our own dedicated food distribution centre which ensures that we have 100% control and traceability of all the food that is delivered to, and served in, our pubs. In conjunction with our suppliers we will continue regular DNA testing.

Yeah, it's not restaurant standard, it's just over a fiver.
go on then..An ex of mine used to cook the food at a Wetherspoons in Bristol. Based on what she told me, I've not eaten there since.
Isn't that more or less what a lamb rogan josh costs in a restaurant, though?

Rice AND a naan? Aloo side dish as well, sir? And perhaps a waffer-thin mint?
