Westwood is a prick isn't he?

Genuine question: Is it mostly white men people who have a problem with Tim Westwood then?

Ive racked my brains and I cant recall anything derogatory said about him by any Asian and black friends, its always been white men that have been most vocal about the way Westwood talks/ behaves. They seem to find him the most objectionable.

I borrowed his can opener once at a weekender , he was staying in the chalet opposite our one. :D

I actually respect him for playing his music when he did and sticking to it.

But then you here stuff like that and it makes you think WTF !!!

He is a bit of legend but for all the wrong reasons. :(

Trying to figure out what point you are trying to make. Failing.

Its just a question based on my observations. Fair play for saying you dont understand though. *shrugs*

i don't mind westwood... he's just livin' the dream.

i've not bothered listening to the link, but i wonder some of the people complaining would care if they heard the same from, say, dj assault or dj godfather?

has anyone got a link to the interview where KRS-1 turns on him :D

No but if you have never heard it it can be quite entertaining. Having said that I think KRS doesn't do too well and Westwood clearly recognised the game that was being played by the Blastmaster.

BB:)

I'm sure many of you will be devastated by this sad announcement :D

But let this moment in history not go unmarked. He's been on Radio 1 for like 20 years which is pretty impressive, and of course Capital and pirate Kiss 100 before that. He's been involved with UK hip hop from the beginning, always representing the UK in the field. His Friday and Saturday night rap show was a big part of my teens and virtually the only real hip hop I ever got to hear without the access to pirate radio or internet in the mid nineties. True to his street credentials he's also survived a drive by shooting. For real.

Post your Westwood memories and thoughts here...

*salutes the big dawg *

I dealt with him a few times when he was running a label, back in the mid-90s. Seemed a decent sort, though he did have the most curious accent.

I think the drive-by shooting was something to do with one Keithy Dread (now dead?), who was doing a bit of protection racketeering round Brixton. It was his cousins or half-brothers who were involved, or so the story went.....

They renewed Treveor Nelson's contract. I've a lot of time for his dedication to all things r&b hip hop and soul, but he's no Westwood.

He's fucking annoying and plays mostly shit. You're more likely to hear underground UK artists on Charlie Sloth's show these days, but tbh he's even fucking worse than Westwood!

In fairness to Radio 1, their remit is to attract (and retain) their youth audience. Bannister did the right thing in the early 90s getting rid of the smashey and niceys and getting people in like Pete Tong, Westwood and younger daytime DJs. But those guys are the same age now as the people who they replaced were. There's argument for getting rid..as they did with Moyles, Dave Pearce, Jo Whiley and Lamacq already.

Well he is pushing 60 years of age, had to happen sooner or later.

Quite how he has managed to hang on this long is pretty astonishing.

So many of the specialist music people who got kicked off radio 1 for being old went to 6, I really would not be surprised. It would fit in with their general image as well.

I don't think he will be co-presenting with Lauren Laverne, though he should because that would be fucking brilliant.
