West Brom vs Bristol Rovers

I was merely congratulating him on a tenacious and committed performance.

Not for anything off the field.

:D

He wasn't the most confident today though :(

David Pipe's a little terrier though, looked like he wanted to inflict GBH on their left back time and time again.

He has his little moments occasionally.

Even your goalie's been known to have them ;)

As for Pipey - he is the righteous revenge of wingers everywhere for all the bruises they've suffered from full backs :D

And now I've done the gracious bit - that third goal was fucking miles offside

It surely was, but I don't think it made much difference in the end. You battled well in the first half, but come the second half it only ever looked like WBA were going to win it.

Still, at least you'll have a nice pile o'cash in the coffers after the cup run.

Well we were debating this while watching the game. Clearly Miller was in an offside position when the ball was originally played forward, although he was running back towards his own line to get onside...however, the ball was then intercepted by a defender and, as it happens, played by the defender towards his own goal...which Miller then took possession of and scored, from what would have been an offside position.

But if the last touch forward was by the defending team, does that not play him onside?

I thought I understood the offside rule just fine, but this one has divided opinion. Any referees out there? ...(on second thoughts, forget it, you're not gonna know are you)

Yay, loads of cash for the morons in charge to fritter away on fuck all.

I think it could have made a huge difference tbh. We were only one goal behind and had started the second half well. The best team won - but at 2-1 we still had a chance, the third goal saw them pull away.

3D's comments are interesting. I realise it was Hints who played the ball to him but the offside had already occurred by the time that happened. We were behind the goal at the other end and even we could see he was yards offside.

Still, well played West Brom. Mowbray's comments at the end showed what a decent fella he is and they were irresistible going forward, as they have been all season. They're a great side to watch and it's remarkable to see what a fantastic overall Cup record they have seeing as they haven't reached a semi in a quarter of a century. Great club, great fans. Bit like us really ;)

Was onside under the rules..... it's the rule that is really stupid....

btw, saw read the stuff about Phillips & city... didn't do himself any favours when he left us, but glad he's moved on. Sometimes happens with a new boss & a new broom....

Funny weekend in the cup tho... the one result that I thought would be a 'shock' was the one result that wasn't....

Still, gas for promotion...... but you'll still be a division behind us... :p

I wanted Rovers to win, but I really didn't think you had much of a chance come the second half, with or without the 'offside' goal.

but surely the point is, with only a goal difference you're in the game. A lucky break, bit of skill, whatever and it's all square. 3-1 killed it stone dead.

The last I remember they changed the offside rule so it was still offside even if the last touch was off a defender. But they may have changed it back since then.

Rovers had their chances but didn't take them and got done for it in the end. Well done for getting so far tho.

Are you an actual City fan ?? :hmm:

We never take them, our scoring record is abysmal by and large. We usually do well because the defence and goalie are pretty tight. Today we got done by the best attack in all four divisions.

I'll repeat about Phillips by the way - he has a 38% clean sheet record with us, which is extraordinary. We'd never have got this far without him and I only saw the first goal as being down to him. He made some good stops as well.

The baggies needed to calm down and pass a bit more, the amount of possession we gave away could really fuck us up in the next match

and on that note, it should really have been 6:1

millers leg gave way right at the last minute, if he'd had stayed up instead of falling on his arse he could have tapped that in

that was pure comedy gold :D

it's funny, earlier this season we tried playing football against West Ham and got shat on but only lost 2-1. Today I thought we matched the opposition in many areas but the finishing was worlds apart. Being able to bring a player like Kevin Phillips on from the bench says it all.

I'm told that Ian Holloway's reaction when we pulled a goal back, there for the whole ground to see in the studio thing in the corner, was an absolute corker :D

Lennie Lawrence did say on MOTD beforehand that they had watered the pitch. He was at pains to point out that this was to level the surfice, rather than to disadvantage the opposition. :D

I'm pretty sure I detected a glint in his eye, though I can't be certain...

The pitch has been worst when it's been dry because then the unevenness of the surface is accentuated because it's so firm. When it's been wet, the ground has a bit more give so the bumps and ruts don't cause quite so much grief.

shit on the baggies,
shit on the baggies tonight,
shit on the baggies,
cos the baggies are shiiiiiitttte.

Apparently the baggies fans were going mental at him for that celebration :D

I think it was Holloway aswell that said Miller looked like Bambi on ice when he fluffed that chance. :D

Olly's a true blue Rovers boy and always will be. He'll be back some day to manage us.
