Wembley v Millenium Stadium experience

Wembley v Millenium

Just that English posters might be less inclined to toe the patriot line. I may be wrong on this, but I sense that a lot of the Welsh fraternity are from Cardiff too.
The only reason I voted for the Millennium stadium is simple: it's a much, much better experience compared to Wembley.

If you shunted it off into a Wembley-like backwater - say somewhere equally lifeless and hideous like Treforest industrial park - then I'd be just as critical.

But it's not and the Cardiff match experience pisses all over the grimness of a day at Wembley.

Like I said, I haven't been to either so can't pass judgement on the experience. Both are beautiful stadiums though, I dare say the envy of many other countries.

If, as expected, the FA bid for the 2018 World Cup, do you think they'll try to get the Millenium on board as one of the venues? Is this a viable idea, with the Welsh FA involved too?

Its been held jointly before.

got to be the mighty millenium for me - but then I'm ridiculously biased - you could see the Cardiff arms park from where I was born...also I used to work in tall building next to it which meant I could see into it when the roof was open and watch the hawk clearing out the pigeons / seagulls (which incidentally the Telstra dome in Melbourne could do with a similar system)

I've never been to a game at Wembley but just driving near there is pretty depressing really. Why a capital city like London can't sort a better experience is beyond me. Personally I think in an ideal world it would be on the banks of the thames somewhere perhaps near Hammersmith / Chelsea - close to the transport links and plenty of pubs / real life nearby

Not been to the new wembley yet but I'm assuming the surrounding area hasn't been made any less shite. Cardiff in comparison was excellent (even if it took 7 hours to drive to from london and we then lost to palace :-( ).

I'm not sure they should have built the new wembley on the old site given there are no pubs, its impossible to get to and its a complete dump.

This is probably applicable to both stadiums (but it sounded a lot, lot louder at Wembley) but this vile habit of blasting out the Wembley Theme Tune Experience TM louder than the crowd's singing at the end really spoiled my Wembley celebrations. I didn't want to clap along to that shite cod-Brazilian bullshit. I wanted to sing Cardiff songs but it was so chuffing loud that it completely drowned out our songs.

I guess they do it to ensure everything's kept nice and squeaky clean but I fucking hated it.

I'm on about the racket they pump out at the beginning and end.

For some reason I can't really remember this happening. At least there wasn't an ice hockey-esque burst of something after the goal. There wasn't was there? I have never been able to understand why the supporters of clubs that do that, do not campaign to make it stop at their grounds.

And that "song from Zulu" is Men Of Harlech you heathen!

:D

I'm afraid this still means nothing to me. :D

I was pissed off by how many people around me didn't know the words to Men of Harlech. Its been played at every home game for god knows how long and people still haven't learnt the words.

Genius, we have the allocation system for final tkts!!!

Ambos, ST holders this season, AMbos next season. Anyone not knowing words to MoH goes to bottom of list!:D

been to both and HQ (Twickenham)

for me the atmosphere at the old arms park was the best I have ever experienced

for those that live outside of london wembly is a twat to get to. twickenham is a better stadium and location IMO (still not great to get to but at least there are pubs nearby)

the millenium stadium is better than the arms park for seating and the actual building but for atmosphere the arms park during a wales\england game simply could not be beaten

eta bear in mind i have only seen 2 football matches in my life 1 at tranmere and the other at wembly.

Twickers is indeed better than Wembley for infratsructure, seats are still a short train journey from the pitch tho. So imho its Millenium,Twickers, Wembley in the great stadium debate!

I've never been there but I like Twickers cause it sounds a bit like knickers.

So 1. Millenium 2. Twickers knickers 3.Wembley 4. Ninian Park 5. Beveree Stadium

Its been held jointly before.

True, but would a joint bid not require more than simply one stadium in Wales? I was thinking of whether England could host the WC, but with the Millenium as a "guest" venue. Also, how many London grounds would FIFA allow? I know both the Parc des Princes and the Stade de France were used in 1998, but I seem to remember that this was done on the priviso that the SdF was in Saint-Denis rather than Paris.

Is the MS unique in its city centre position? I can't think of another, thos someone will prob now remind me of an obvious one!
