Damn, Richie Spice there, too. His stuff reminds me of being out in Jamaica...

*reminisce*

ETA: I can't be there, dammit, and it's in fucking haverfordwest, *just* up the road :mad::mad:

(I'm off with Ms Pembrokestephen to see her family)

how come it's free?!?! was gonna go last year but they got stitched up by the council.

have to pay for parking and camping at this but looks good

i thought it something like he's registered himself as a charity so qualifies for arts grants.
its the 4th year of the 'welsh' reggae festival, you'd think it would be nice to see uprising on the bill.....

personally i'm looking forward to roots rock cymru in august...

the line-up is culture, misty in roots, lloyd brown, bob bailey & jailers.....and lots of others (including uprising) so it more reprasentative of welsh reggae, i feel.

There's a £5 "administration fee" on each ticket. I suspect some legal loophole-diving :)

yeah, you can't compete with free.

looks like its gonna be worth it tho for the reggae lovers, both culture and misty in roots are special bands i've waited years to see..:D

Oh yes, I'll definitely be trying to get to this. I was going to go last year but apparently the police bill was going to come to £30,000 (yeah, right) so it was cancelled :(

apparently my bro is owed £100+ for last years tickets off the Cardiff man:(

mate, i'm still a bit upset they were selling tickets for last year even knowing the festival wasn't going ahead as planned....

[snip/edit]
i can't be bothered to air all my views about this here.

i'm just looking forward to the real deal 'roots rock cymru'. tickets available now, from me...

a couple of mates of mine have been talking about driving over for it (i have my doubts the rust bucket will make it that far) but i think i'm busy that weekend

unsuprisingly the reggae wales festival in pem'broke'shire has been postponed

check

Fucking hell, have you seen this: http://www.reggaewales.com/mems.htm

Apparently 'an official' told them:

* Your Music is loud and intrusive

* to get a licence you will need a noise consultant at all times, regardless of if your team have sound limiters.

* You are more trouble than all the 'Black People' in Cardiff, we haven't got a Racial problem in Pembrokeshire.

* You could Sponsor the 'Welsh Black Cattle' at this years Agricultural show.

* The Police do not have enough traffic cones to put along the road outside the Showground, but if we put some banana skins down, no-one will know the difference and wont be able to stop.

Shocking...

unbelievable... I think they've had problems in the past too...

Hopefully it WILL go ahead in August... fingers crossed.

Does anyone have a ticket in their hand for this?

I just recieved mine, having booked last week (before the postponment) and they are are number 290, 291, and 292.

Does anyone have a higher number?
If not perhaps its a case of not enough ticket sales, and they're covering up... its possible.

........and still no change !

Dear Members & Ticket Holders.

Please remember to keep the faith, knowing that when one door is closed, many more will open.....

The story will be told about the 4 years of Racial Abuse and continual moving of the 'Goal Posts' by the Authorities in Pembrokeshire in relation to holding the Reggae Festival of Wales. There is a catalouge of repeated Racial Abuse from members of the Authorities and obsticles being purposly put in the way to block our progress.

The event has been re-scheduled and will take place this year, in August, so that we can experience and express the true meaning of ONE LOVE in our Multicultural Society, and help our children to grow positivly.

Please note....for legal purposes, the full details will emerge at a later date, the facts and truths will reveal which official made the following comments

The hurt and dissapointment that has occured over the last 4 years has been unbearable whilst trying to put on the event, this is before I speak about the financial losses. In order to change minds, attitudes and legislation we at ReggaeWales need the support of the people.

We work towards and pray for a better day and better life. Our event represents togetherness, serving one God and living in peace. The emphasis is on supporting each other as people and not making decisions based on colour, class or any other ism.

Most of the problems and difficulties occured because things were done according to Pembrokeshire 'Law' and not according to United Kingdom Law.

is this reggae wales thing definitely not just a scam to take people's money then? I mean they could easily have made up all of those quotes up, and a similar thing happened last year didn't it? unless maybe people know the guy who is organising it and getting the money.

i don't know anymore about it or anyone involved, so it is hard to know for sure.

pbs, could you make *ahem* some 'probing enquiries with 'dignitries' in the local ;) ? or would that be too above the parapet

I haven't been able to find out much, but there are rumours of a local councillor/dignitary type who got into some trouble for racist remarks a little while back.

It's a bit delicate - some of the circles in which I move require discretion as a professional thing - but I'll carry on quietly digging, see if I can come up with a name or - better - a news story.

ETA: nothing much new, but there is this:-

http://www.westerntelegraph.co.uk/s...7.0.racism_row_after_reggae_festival_flop.php

There's talk of a £26,000 bill for emergency services cover, and the licensee of the site withdrew after not receiving any monies in respect of that from the organisers.

So I can see a few scenarios here, depending on whether that kind of bill is excessive for this kind of event (and you can rely on the journalistic standards of the Western Telegraph to completely fail to follow up THAT kind of lead). It's possible that someone in the local authority has thought "ooerr, loads of that darkie music, loads of drugs, better swamp the place with coppers" and gone completely over the top on the policing requirement; it's also possible that the site owners never really wanted the gig in the first place (probably less likely), or that they got cold feet; or the organisers might just have been being a bit naive and failed to realise the commitments they needed to make.

I'll try and find out more, but I'm not going to burn up too many good connections for this, IYSWIM ;)

Photo of the bloke who runs the showground:

staff2_bottom.jpg

An unflattering pic, I'm sure you'll agree ;)

Also this...

http://www.pembrokeshiretv.com/content/templates/v6-article.asp?articleid=208&zoneid=32

which relates to last year's festival.

They talked then of costs rising from £7,000 to £10,500 - so I'm not surprised the promoter was pissed off - and this year it's more than doubled to £26,000, so I'd say that there's something nefarious going on.

I'll try and find out if it's the council, the site licensee, or the police who are responsible for the price hikes...

don'tcha just love urban
S'OK, I don't anticipate any trouble for asking - but I will probably have to be a bit careful about whom I come on here naming and shaming for racism :), especially if the information came via Certain Routes...

i know Charles the promoter of the cancelled festival.

i don't want to publicly repeat rumors about him, but i won't be working with him.
in the reggae community his name is MUD!
