Well According to the BBC its Scolari for England

Sunray

Its sunny somewhere.
No doubting his pedigree with International teams. Anyone know if he can speak 1/2 decent English? Can't remember an interview with him speaking in English.

I think that the FA are going to well annoy the Portugese FA letting this leak before the world cup. Hard to keep it under wraps with journo's with contacts in every airport.

I'm not so sure about this, he's a good manager, but will he be good for the English players and style of play?

Why couldn't it be good? The main problem for the England team IMHO has always been not a lack of good players, but that managers have never quite brought out the exciting play that we should be able to produce. Someone like Scolari could be just the ticket. On the other hand, the fact that he can't speak English is a tad worrying

Remember Romario and Figo?

David Beckham and one or two others may have to stop feeling so comfortable now :)

why not?

he has won the world cup

he has beaten us twice

can only be positive

as for not speaking english...neither do half the team ;) :D

his english is just about ok, not great by any means. i think he would be a much better candidate than any englishman, (mclaren!?) and if we have to wait till after the world cup for a decision. then so be it.

I like Scolari. There could be some interesting times with the press.

I still can't understand why they couldn't wait till after the WC though. I think it shows what a bunch of self-important twatts the FA are.

great manager, i think his achievement of getting portugual to the euro finals was more impressive than winning the world cup with brazil (how hard could that be :D )

if it is him, there will be some interesting times ahead, he won't be the trouser snake monster that sven proved to be, but he won't take the shit that the press are bound to hand out, i think he punched a journalist once didn't he?

Thank God for that - the thought of Allardyce or McClaren in charge of the England side is too horrible to even contemplate.

We have had good teams over the years (so have many other countries of course which is one reason why we've not won owt for years) but I think we just bottle it at the most crucial moments, and I don't know how much any manager can do about that.

I'm glad McClaren and Allardyce have been overlooked at any rate.

I was hoping for an England management dream team of Brooking & Pearce. But "big Phil" would have been my second choice. Just glad they the FA did not go for Bryan Robson or McClaren. His lack of English should not be a problem. Look at Mourinho & Bobby Robson at Sporting Lisbon.

Bit rubbish though that a country the size of England can't manage a home grown manager, no?
There probably are one or two who would do well in the job, probably unexpectedly. They're just not willing to take the risk though.

yeah, you only have to look at the "tactics" played out in youth leagues up and down the country to see there's a problem. 4 4 2 with the ball smacked up to the fast forward every fucking time.

I doubt if the prospect of facing the fickle press and the 'boo-ready' England fans adds much appeal to the job for any manager either.

He's still second choice to Guus IMO, but the FA's fucking and faffing put paid to that.

Big Phil is a good bloke - not only can he manage world class players, but looks like he can fix the plumbing at Wembley as well!

His record is impressive but too much is being made of it. Yes, he won the World Cup - and a pretty poor one it was too - with Brazilian players, but there's quite a few other managers who could have led that team to victory.

With Portugal - which he didn't have to qualify and the players speak the same lingo as him - he got them to the final on their own turf and then lost to bloody Greece, who by that time were no longer a surprise package. If he was that good a manager they should have won it, they certainly had the better players. And add to that that if it hadn't been for Rooney breaking his foot in the quarter final against them, England would probably have beaten them - and if Sol Campbell's goal at the end had stood, which it should have done, we'd have beaten them anyway.

I'm not saying that he won't do a good job for England - and with the easy qualifying group we've got for the next Euro he can't fail to qualify us for it - but I'm just saying 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'. I don't think he'll be any better than Sven, to be honest.

You up for the job RD?!

Actually, it may well prove to be beneficial. He won't be able to read the bullshit that goes by the way of english football journalism, nor will he be beholden to the interfering media.

Maybe we'll get a manager that pays no attention to the press whatsoever. In which case we'd have a brilliant chance of winning things!

Look, it's hard to get my enthusiasm going at the best of times, don't pour water on it now!

I'm glad they haven't (yet - it's not final! ;)) caved to public pressure about getting a British manager. The only one I think would have a chance would be O'Niell and I want him for Newcastle!

Whilst I don't know that much about his record (BBC have a brief history here), the one thing I am optimistic about is his background of not being afraid to drop 'big names'. I think this has been one of Sven's biggest problems, and hopefully it'll give the team the kick up the airse it needs :)

Doesn't say much for English managers that the FA have chosen someone who can barely speak the language. The England team pretty much picks itself, all you need is someone to rally the troops and take the flak. They've gone for Big Phil because of his credentials, when they should have been brave enough to put their faith in someone like Allardyce or O'Neill.
