Welcome to Mrs M's new forum

A word in your shell like. MrsM will be ruling this place with an iron fist and there'll be a firm zero tolerance stance on any kind of off topic pissing about.

So, given your track record, I'd stay out of it if I were you.

But people do piss on compost so it's hardly off-topic

the craft club allotment and piss story is most amusing.

Lovely idea :)

me and some mates tracked old Jack down, went and got drunk with him. Nice bloke :)

Yay!

Paulie, my magazines combine jazz and caravans. :p

Alas, I don't have a shed, or a garden even, but I think I will pop in here from time to time for vicarious horticultural thrills.

This is lovely! Can we have a green-tinged skin in here?

Like we had at Christmas.

Congratualtions Mrs M!

Very nice to see this forum up and running - I'll be cleaning out the shed this weekend, fixing the hole in the roof and putting new batteries in the radio! :)

Right then. First fight time.

Plastic plant pots are shit. Full stop and no exceptions (except for transparent pots for some orchids. Its the roots, you know)

Terracotta is more expensive in the first instance, sure, but it is more environmentally friendly, more stable, less prone to problems of overwatering and looks better as well.
So there :p

It's a shame I bring death to plants. :(

Indeed.

I have owned several Bonzai trees, all of whom have killed themselves rather than live with me.

I am growing another one atm, it seems to be dong quite well. It is still just a sapling though.

Is it true that if you try to grow a mighty oak in a small pot it will become a small mouse sized tree because it's root can't spread?

<whispers>

I only use them for starting seeds in and they are all ones that something else was bought in.

Actually I have a lovely lot of terracotta ones that I literally inherited from mr m's uncle. And I have a lot of cacti and succulents growing in most of them

so you're suggesting that a load of new terracotta pots are better for the environment than an existing collection of recycled plastic pots?

Long term/life time vs production 'costs', yes.

By all means, recycle existing plastic pots. That is a different issue.
