weird things I've noticed in tv ads

The ad for the new Fiat Grande Punto ad (the one with Marilyn Manson's cover of "Sweet Dreams" in the background). The voiceover goes like this:

"Close your eyes; listen to your heart; and think. Come on. Do yourself a favour and think big. All this from seven five nine four. The new Grande Punto. Open your eyes."

I've noticed that if you do close your eyes, you never get to see what the car looks like, or find out anything about it. It's also off the screen by the time you're asked to open them. Seems a funny way to sell a product to me, but then I'm just an uninformed punter.

Hmmm, what kind of file have you downloaded? If it's a .torrent file you need to download a client first, like Azureus: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ and use it to open the torrent file to start the actual 1.7gig download. If you're completely new to torrents you could use these links instead:

http://www.archive.org/details/AdamCurtisCenturyoftheSelfPart2of4
http://www.archive.org/details/AdamCurtisCenturyoftheSelfPart3of4

right click save target on the download MPEG4 link, file sizes are smaller too.

Your a star and should change your name to positivland

thanks so very much :)

There's one that annoyed me for ages, and it comes from those most prolific purveyors of irritation: Bulldog Broadband. It's in the 'open the gate advert':

Schoolgirl wonders why homework takes so long, daddy says the internet is a gate half open etc etc... Girl says, 'Why can't we open the gate'? narrator launches into spiel...

They wanted fast broadband, they wanted afordableband

Will somone please tell me what the fuck afordableband is?

The ad is viewable here if ya don't believe me (don't worry clicking the 'open the gate' thing will just play it, not redirect you to Bulldog).

I'm a bit puzzled as to why Nissan seem to think Namibian diamond mines will help to sell their latest 4x4 :(

A fantastic documentary series that was. It's availble on public license, the torrent's here
Same guy who did The Power of Nightmares. Really fascinating.

PS: Both series contain loads of the same stock footage - keep an eye out :)

This is a good thing! More Arty ads I say ! :D
If there is one thing that winds me up is people thinking that ads are in anyway art (not accusing you of this Bomber - although you may well think this)

At most they involve some form of creativity, but then again so does taking a dump.

Most of the "arty" adds involve the creativity of looking at a real piece of art and ripping it off.

When will the police do a 250 man raid on ad agencies and bang up all these coke snorting scum?

I find it hilarious how 99% of adverts that feature both men and women show the men to be incompetent child-men and the women to be confident, secure I-know-what-I-want grown-ups.
It does piss me off something rotten, that; imagine the outcry if the roles were reversed. Indeed, I'm half-tempted to get a crew together, reshoot those ads with the genders swapped round, then post the results to the ASA... :p

What I want to know is...

Why is it that some adverts will run for a bit, and then change in a small but seemingly insignficant detail, and then run for a while longer. Something like a little change to the voiceover or soundtrack.

Is this a deliberate ploy to get you to take notice of them again after you've started tuning them out?
