Weird Cat Behaviour - Drinking

Is that normal then, do cats prefer drinking their water from weird places?

Completely normal. Our cats have a bowl of water in the kitchen but much prefer to get it from other places. Especially if it tastes funny, it seems.

My cat regularly drinks from glasses of water / cold cups of herbal tea that he sees lying about. Then again, this is a cat who _hunts_ pizza.

T'other cat regularly drinks from the toilet. Often the only sign of it is little feline footprints all over the bowl. If you run up the stairs suddenly, you will occasionally hear the toilet seat clattering and see a slightly damp, very surprised-looking, black and white moggy streak past you. I personally suspect she's working out how to piss in there and will soon learn to flush it.

I use to sit for a loca cat occasionally. he had actually been trained to climb on the bath to reach the purposively dripping tap. unfortunately, he was a very old cat, one day he slipped, vetinary looked at him and advised to put him to sleep :(

now, what puzzles me is why this cat pissed a lot, while another one I sat over christmas hardly did. that cat had plenty of water in a bowl next to the food.

cats have a really bad thirst mechanism (like humans). They have traditionally received a fluid intake from food. Dried food, including science plan (which is recommended by many vets), is very good for cats teeth. Cats teeth go manky and mouldy if they have a diet of wet food. However, if cats eat dried food and not much water, there kidneys go. My cat used only drink from a running tap, and then only if I left the room - a little stroppy at time is my kitten de cat. This cost lots of water wastage. So I put a little pump and set it on low and put it into a big glass bowl, and she now drinks from this. You can also get cat fountains, which move the water around to give the cat the impression of running water.

Yeah mine always drinks from the glass of water I leave by the bed. If I'm hungover/thirsty enough I'll drink the cat water. MMMMM]

A few weeks ago I noticed paw prints around the rim of the toilet seat (after boys had been and left the seat up).... now i'm noticing paw prints inside the flipping bowl!! I'm worried if they slip and fall in head first they'll drown, but my OH assures me they will be able to get out...

what do you all think?

(it's not like they don't have perfectly nice bowls of water themselves either  little scavengers.. :D )

Roxxi has a fascination with water, the toilet, any cup or glass anywhere in the house. I've been known to run a couple of inches of water into the sink for her to play with. She sticks her paws in and stirs the water.

Sh's tried to get into the toilet a few times. Since having been woken up by a small girl cat who was rather damp deciding to dry herself off on me in the middle of the night, I make sure the lid to the loostays down when not in use.

however much I love cats, I am now persuaded not to have one. he'll drink my beer  :D

My cat used to lick the condensation on the windows to make a little hole to see out of... I thought that was very clever. He never drank out of my glass, but he had a big bowl of water of his own that he would frequently empty. He didn't go near the loo or sink or anything, which was good as I was super paranoid about him falling in the loo!

I did have to watch out if there was a jug of milk about anywhere, if we were having tea or something, as he would be there in a shot. I always got annoyed as he wasn't meant to be drinking normal milk. He quite liked that cat milk actually, but then again he was a greedy so and so who ate everything. Once he got tucked into a salad I'd just put on the table- what's that about??

My cats drink out of the toilets and the bathtub. I don't know if they even have their own bowl, they probably use the dogs' bowl. Hm.
