Weekly/Fortnightly Bin collections

Aye poster, but that's because you only seem to get excited when you're in full negative flow; waffling apocalyptically about the mystical 'bin stasi,' conspiratorial 'liberals' and how everybody's out to get you. I note you've not given any real world examples of the speculative nonsense you've come up with on this thread.

A little paranoia is a reasonable precautionary step, but you've built a staircase of misery around yourself.

Is this about saving money or encouraging recycling ?
Both.

The council gets charged for each ton they put in landfill, a charge they would have to pass on to the tax payers. By recycling more less goes into landfill so it costs the council and hence the tax payers less.

Your bins still get emptied weekly. It's just that general waste gets removed once a fortnight and recyclabe waste on alternate weeks. The binmen still have the same number of bins to empty. If you emptied both bins each week you would need more binmen (and bin lorries) or the binmen would have to work more hours which would cost the tax payer more.

I don't think that's a very good argument.

Let's say I live in a flat and our block currently has four bins for normal waste. If the council designates two of those bins for recycling only, then they cut down on normal waste and can still give us weekly collections.

No because you need 2 bin lorries and 2 lots of binmen.

The general waste gets carted off to landfill while the recycling goes elsewhere.

The only way your method would work was if the binmen turned up and emptied all the bins into the one lorry and took it all to landfill. But that would cost the council more as they have to pay for what they put into landfill.

Cant be arsed-how long do you think recycling takes then? Hours? Days?

Stick it all in one bin, compress it and send it all off to the East (using up the space on all the "cheap consumer goods" container ships that are going back that way empty. They seem to be very adept at picking through the rubbish out there.

That is only a question of money and/or logistics. It has nothing to do with encouraging us to recycle more.
