Weds 11th Feb: Friends of Brixton Market are having a party! FREE!

The Tender Trap song - "Ampersand" - on the HDIF comp mentions Brixton. Pretty appropriate for right now as well:

"Double footprints in the snow
And our heads held low
Brixton sounds warm up the cold
Helps the sales get sold."

I love love love that song - never heard the Brixton reference though - gonna play it now...

Here's a rough timetable:

Starts 7.30pm
Uta, acoustic act 8.30-9.00
DJs Editor and Nipsla (Offline)
9.40 Quick intro to the campaign (there'll be leaflets and people around to talk to)
9.45 No Frills Band (huzzah!)
10.10 DJs till end Editor and Nipsla (Offline)

Blimey - didn't realise it was just us on the decks. Better dig out some more records :D

Any chance of me getting up and doing "The streets are fine in south west nine"?

Well that seemed a decent night. Was in there early on, until the football started really, and there seemed a good crowd. Bumped into a fair few old faces and it seemed well attended.

The only vague criticism is that it was a bit softly softly at first. Some people almost apologetically set some posters up and just stood there, relying on the curiosity of folks to enquire. Ute appeared on stage without announcement, no music was on between and it just seemed to miss a slight trick, allowing the post-work crowd to slip away without hearing anything 'official'. I realise more was due on stage later, but...

But the mood in the cheap seats was firmly in favour of FBM, with a groundswell of 'they can't do that to the market'. Encouragingly so in fact.

The first acoustic act - who seemed to go on several eternities - didn't exactly warm the place up, and there really should have been a compère onstage giving the night a focus. The sound was really awful all night and and it was a bit odd DJing in a perspex box covered in posters - we couldn't see a thing (that's probably why I didn't see you there)!

The turnout was good though, and I had a good time, but I don't think it's the right venue for such a night.

It's a bit cavernous and the place never got settled because a lot of people preferred to hang out outside.

Thanks for coming!

Hi just a quick thanks from Friends of Brixton Market to everyone who came, played, contributed. It was a great night (despite our slight lack of organisation ... we're getting there - all feedback appreciated) and there were lots of new people who showed up and were up for doing things. Looking forward to doing stuff soon!
