Wedding night hotel in London.

I think there might be a quite well respected guide to eccentric (but nice) hotels in England... I'll try giving it a quick google.

http://www.onealdwych.co.uk/

dont mess about, do one aldwych.Nice.

( nip next door for a takeaway coffee & Criosants take away brekkie tho - £30 or whatever is a bit much for breakfast )

edit: its got a pool! and right on teh strand...see a show...go on a pub crawl...the world is your oyster!

( I did my wedding nite there )

Well I would offer you my bed , you can see a tiny bit of the river up the lane ....but Ive got 2 dogs who think its their bed.

What about a pub, inn.......that does b+ b plus american friend will love the the quaint englishness of it all plus you can have a late drink.

Look up Youngs, Fullers breweries + they give lists of pubby type hotels.

Congrats + celebrations by the way.

Not tight, sensible. Spend the money, but spend it on a couple of nights somewhere away- Cotswolds for example. If you can't afford a longer honeymoon, at least get out of your home town for a few nights.

It needs to be in London for that night tbh. And we have a very long honeymoon afterwards. Turns out my mate from the US will pretty much be leaving two nights later - so I'm wondering if it's worth it - but it really does seem like it would be an anticlimax to come back to the flat. Although on the other hand it might be really nice to do that too - we could all just chill out and go for brunch - ok lunch- the next day somewhere local.

Some good suggestions on this thread though... will investigate further..

Richmond has some good hotels with river views. The Petersham hotel is the fanciest. :)

(you can get the boat back to lambeth the next day :) )

This is a lovely hotel, we wanted to stay there after our wedding but it was fully book so we ended up at the Richmond Gate Hotel http://www.foliohotels.com/richmondgate/location/index.htm
which was good but not worth the amount of money we paid.

Staying around that neck of the woods means you can wander down to the river and go for a meal at Petersham Nurseries.

you only get married once hopefully so make it special and bugger the money!
This way madness lies. One event can only be so special before you start wasting money. ('Wasting' in the literal sense of getting no pleasure or satisfaction for having spent it.)

Kensington Hilton is usually pretty reasonably priced. £79/night if you book in advance. The standard rooms are pretty small, but the hotel in general is nice. It's on the western edge of Holland Park, so you can gawk at all the big houses and peer through the iron bars of the private parks.

Or this

pretty feeble web page

View of the hotel from the river

I've walked past this palce a few times, never been in, but it is an ace location - Richmond agains - wander up the hill there is an ace pub, The Roebuck I think, stunning views all over the river and west ldn

Right.. I was well tempted by One Aldwych - we both very much like the idea of having a swimming pool and gym for the morning after the wedding - and I thought I could get us a massage/treatment type affair too to help with the hangover. Plus we went there once on our ongoing review tour of London's Eggs Benedict/Florentine venues - and it came up trumps (although a bit posh-intimidating for brunch tbh). BUT - it's basically £400 before you even factor in the treatments. NO WAY!!

Richmond is nice - but we really do need to be central I think (although I might look a bit more at Richmond). We'll be taking a cab from the Old Kent Road area to wherever we stay and once we check out the next afternoon we'll probably be meeting up with my best friend who's coming especially from America and going out for drinks/dinner (and knowing her it will turn into an all-nighter...:D Last wedding we all went to together we all missed our respective flights/ferries etc the next day and I was almost hospitalised...) - so central London might be better.

Hazlitts is looking distinctly possible - they've got a cheap rate on 'cos they're doing renovations at the moment - so it could be as "little" as £200... (). Surprisingly for a historian gaijinboy is less keen than I - he's more up for modern and pool/gym.

Some nice places on Enid's thread too.

ooh Hipipol.....that's nice that 2nd one - and just looking at the houseboat too.

Maybe we should do Richmond then.. get Therese to come and meet us there and take her to the park/Hampton Court (I love Hampton Court) etc and then dinner in the evening?

ETA - that houseboat has a honeymoon suite of sorts!

Not expensive either... not sure about the "has its own balcony.. at your own risk!"... ooh it's right beside Hampton Court - we could take our folding bikes and cycle back the next day! (although not sure how we'd factor Therese into that... will have to give it some thought...).

What about Greenwich?

This used to be part of the Royal Naval Hospital, is practically in Greenwich Park, is within a short stagger of the Trafalgar with a fantasic river view etc

Thats the Trafalgar

All v close to train and DLR, or you could get the boat from the landing stage virtually outside the front door back to central London
Takes about half an hour, but is well worth it

Once a year when we were kids my Dad used to take us there to this thing where we'd start at the Trafalgar dressed up as pirates and go out onto the Thames in little row boats. This was back when the Thames was not so clean... my mother would be horrified! Greenwich isn't a bad idea either and it is well close for both our families - lots of childhood memories too I suppose - we'd go loads as we lived so close (although it's changed so much).

I'm pretty taken with that houseboat in Richmond though - that's very us really - especially if we can take our bikes..

Oh my

I'm not getting married but really want to stay on that Houseboat now!!!:D

Might have to go for a weekend......

Oofr - didnt check out teh prices at One Aldwych - it is a bit much TBH - we must have got a special/ low season deal price...

Yeah.. but we're going on honeymoon for about 5 weeks - that money would go a long way in SE Asia!! It is a gorgeous place though.. very special..

for that price, you'd get 5 NIGHTS in a 5* hotel in Asia.

I wouldn't waste the money on London

Not very glamourous and you'd be right next to a building site, but you'd also have a hospital nearby if you got alcohol poisoning ;) There are rooms with views of the River apparently. It's easily reached from both Brixton and Old Kent Road.

Doesn't have a swimming pool but it has "a state of the art fitness suite comprising a selection of free weights, cardiovascular equipment, dry sauna, steam room and tropical showers. A range of beauty treatments and massages are also available in the fitness suite or in the comfort of your room.a state of the art fitness suite comprising a selection of free weights, cardiovascular equipment, dry sauna, steam room and tropical showers. Nothing special I'm afraid. Just another option to add to your list

Thanks Minnie..

....bit gutted - we both got very excited about the riverboat place but they only take bookings for two nights at that time of year and we only need it for the one.. :(

Alternatively, why don't you hire a cleaner (I'm not casting aspersions, honest) to give your flat a good going over and make it all lovely and sparkly, and jazz it up with candles and flowers and all that malarkey. I know it's not the same, but it's better than spending your honeymoon money.

To be honest Enid - we already have a cleaner - there's only so much one person can do when she has clients who keep their bicycles in their beds!! (ok - not in, but on the beds - and the walls - and the hall etc) ;):D Plus we have flatmates and cats who take HUGE delight in waking us up at 4/5/6am etc etc. We're just terribly terribly cluttered...:D

I think we're going to go for the houseboat and just stay for two nights instead of one (if we can get the booking) since it's about a 3rd of the price of anywhere else. Then we can actually take our bikes with us and cycle around and go to Hampton Court - I love it there.. maybe arrange a traditional bridal beheading or something?? :D

Good idea though...

You can stay in my flat if you like - we're going on holiday that day. And it's only a short bus ride from Marylebone Registry Office :D

You'd have to cook your own breakfast though :p

Hmm.. chez Papingo or Chez Trashpony?

Your flat is gorgeous though and very well appointed in a much sought after area!! :D
