The Terrorism Act is the thin end of the wedge. Whether you're forcing someone to empty their pockets in the street for no good reason or you're playing a more direct part in something rather more immediately threatening, you cant claim that you're 'just doing your job'. Just don't - if it's necessary for your job then quit. PK's post above wasn't so far off if you consider that this is now the beginning of a private, politicised and unaccountable policing force operating in parallel to the actual, fully trained and at least partially accountable "real" police, and as some commentators on this issue have already noted, it just so happens that these jobsworths have the means and motivation to target the weak and vulnerable targets - tax paying, law abiding citizens. (They have to get their quota!).

Anyone with half a brain could see I wasn't "comparing a fucking stop and search to the Holocaust" - I was highlighting the fact that cops tend to trot out that line "only doing my job sir" even when they clearly don't believe in aspects of the job they are requested to do.
You don't know any better, you only serve to obey, and it's no wonder that a large swathe of cop families are deeply unhappy ones, with servile wives and cowering children, with all that self hate to take home after a days work, who else can you take it out on?

I'm not one of those ACAB twats either... I think plenty of cops have a shit time of it, especially dealing with RTAs and having to tell the families, all that horrible shite that people just expect cops to get on with.
But being given draconian and pretty much unlawful powers of arrest, extended abilities under crap terror laws, putting people through full searches on the way to work without questioning the logic and anticipating the backlash... and then trying to personally justify it by saying "I'm just doing my job sir"...
