Weather in Action: London thunderstorm watch

Sorry if I'm being dense but what does 'close down the city' mean? All the banker people will stop working? Or all shops in London to be shut? Me no get it. Back home in the hottest months everythings shut from 1-4 but thats about it.

God can you imagine what the heat is going to do to public transport

I don't really know. I suppose it's like when you go to Madrid or Paris... loads of places are closed for the month.... like the deli on Atlantic Road in Brixton. It's closed for the whole month 'cos they keep Meditteranean hours.

I can't imagine the actual City - in the sense of financial companies - doing that tbh...........but I suppose if the weather continues to be this hot, or hotter, it would make sense for other businesses to shut down for a month.
