We went to Morrison's

A new Morrisons store opened near me last year. I went for a look round and purchased a few items that I took home and put in my freezer.

I looked at them every time I opened my freezer for the next six months but couldn't bottle up actually eat the stuff so I threw it all in the bin.

That made me :D I'm so like that whenever I buy cheap food. I find that if I actually have the time to go to M&S as well as Sainsbury / Tesco that M&S often have really good stuff on special offer - M&S is expensive if you bought everything there but you can pick up decent food offers so if you have one local it's well worth popping in to take a look.

Smart Price 8 Thick Sausages: 16p

Price per sausage: 2p

Pork content: 34per cent

Per sausage (uncooked): 111cal, 6.1g fat, 0.8g salt

VERDICTS

THE CELEBRITY CHEF: These had a fatty and processed texture, but tasted surprisingly good. They turned a nice, even, golden brown, retained their shape and were a good size for children. They were like the sausages I ate as a child at school. My children would love them with a load of ketchup.

THE NUTRITIONIST: These have a low meat content - only 34 per cent - which is why they're so cheap. The next ingredient is water, and there is a lot of rusk - flour and raising agent. Soya has been added as a protein boost. This sausage has less fat, calories and salt than the other sausages, but it has lots of flavourings and preservatives, too. Generally, the fewer ingredients, the better.

THE CHILD: This was like cereal - it was hard to taste the meat. But I liked the crunchy, golden skin - it helped make up for the lack of flavour inside.

OVERALL VERDICT: A budget buy which lacks meat, but has less fat than all the other sausages we tested. Scored surprisingly well.

and they're even giving discounts on food that's going out of date on that day. They never used to do that

The Morrisons in Derby is just weird. I do revisit once in a while to see if it's any better but it's just got an awful atmosphere. I do love their cheese and onion baps.

I get biscuits, choccies, snacks and general naughty things from the local market, Poundland and Home Bargains. We went to HB last week to stock up and we must have looked like right hogs, more so than usual :p Lidl and Aldi have mega stuff too. I'm a supermarket tart and will go where the offers take me. I'm thinking of bussing it to Asda this weekend for the special 50p offers. And I know the pic is from the Daily Mail but I can't help that!

PMSL! The teenager isn't happy! He came home from school and went to get some food and started........"Oh my god, you've been to Morrisons, it's chav food! I am not eating any of it!"

:D:D

It should be pronounced "Leed-ull". With a slightly sharper "d" than we usually use in English. There is no 's' on the end. It really winds me up when people put 's's on the ends of shop names where there aren't any.

Whatever next.

Blame my mil then, she always adds an s for some reason, and I couldn't remember :p
And I kinda need to go there tomorrow :( I hate shopping on a Saturday :(

there's nothing wrong with morrison's apart from the fact that they shrink wrap individual vegetables.

Yes, that really winds me up. Why does a pepper need to be shrink wrapped for crying out loud?

Morrisons bread is much nicer than Tesco or Asda, and I like the salad bar.

Go for it, go on :D

My attitude would be that's what's there, eat it or starve :p
Teatime was such fun tonight. Kevin had fillet steak, rice and brocolli. A massive debate started about the steak, according to him Morrisons use a lower class of cow for their steaks than Sainsbury's so it "tasted chavvy".:D

The brocolli wasn't up to his standard either, "too stringy and manky". Funny how he still ate everything.:hmm:

The most convenient place for me to shop is Morrisons or Aldi on my way home from the station. There is a Tesco and an M&S within walking distance too but in the wrong direction.

I have to say that I am a bit bored of Morrisons and am fed up of their OTT packaging.

I am now going to the pound shops in Ilford or the local one in Barkingside to buy things like kitchen towels, liquid soaps and shampoo. It's a hell of a saving if you add it all up over one year.

I was under the impression that a lot of the stuff sold there is suspect. If I'm wrong let me know, please! I've bought cleaning products that seem a little watered down. That doesn't bother me, but I do worry about conterfeit dodgy chemicals.

seeing as Hollis isn't here

meat was really good in the palmers green & wood green morrisons. good booze offers too. plus they did two foot long rectangular pork pies for £7.99 - didn't try any of those, though.

I know but I'd rather not go elsewhere.

There's a Morrisons store and a Tesco both within walking distance of my house, but I'd rather drive 5 miles and pay more money just for the pleasurable experiance of shopping at Booths.
It was a joke by would be. Didn't you get it?

If you want to save money, get your fruit and veg from a green grocer - they are invariably cheaper than the supermarkets.
Yes I know, I found that out this afternoon. I went to a little greengrocers in Manford Way in Chigwell, 3 huge peaches for £1.30, same for nectarines, and they are really nice and sweet. The sad fucking things I have been buying in the supermarkets at £2.49 for 5 were nowhere near as nice.

I am really careful about this and always check the labels, and the shampoo they are selling at one shop I use is absolutely fine. but there are a couple of shops I avoid for this sort of thing.

All the stuff I've bought at Poundland or other £ shops(dunno where Stobs was going) has been fine but it's also nearly always 'label' stuff. Toothpaste(colgate herbal), Cussons liquid soap, crisps(did notice these are only 9 packs now instead of 12  ), stuff like that.
