We love our china and covet other people's.

They had some of that fruity stuff on Flog It, today. Don't remember how much it went for, though

a pub We also buy from a pub in Derbyshire whose landlord is also a potter - huge cream bowls with brown slip decorations of hares and moons - lovely for one-dish meals.

That sounds nice.

I have a thing for stoneware. I have some Jugs and pint mugs from StIves, some Tregaron pottery stuff and some commisioned for me by my parents for various birthdays, made by a local lady.

I'd like to get some decent crockery - Denby or something, but I just don't think it's a good idea, as all my plates, mugs etc invariably get chipped or broken when I try and cram them all into the washing up bowl at the same time. I just buy it from Tesco or Poundsaver - cheap and cheerful. Some of it actually looks a bit Denby-ish.

Fuckin'ell, I usually watch Flog It

I do think that going to auctions might be the best way to get it at a reasonable price....

There's a few items on ebay, couple of cups & saucers that were £102 each when I last looked.

You could try not cramming them all into the bowl at the same time!

I think Denby stuff is pretty hardwearing, certainly looks it.

I've really fallen in love with this stuff........

I'd really like a piece of it, but it's totally out of my price range now!
There's some for sale on ebay http://search.ebay.co.uk/worcester-...cZQ2d1QQsalicZ3QQsbrexpZWD4SQQssPageNameZWD4S including a thimble.

There were some of these vases on Flog It the other day. They'd been bought for a huge amount a few years ago and I'm pretty sure they didn't sell because the reserve was too high. You could keep an eye out at your local sale room to see if any come up there.

It certainly is...all my Denby belonged to my Granny and the only bits that have broken are teapot lids. I've dropped other stuff and it's bounced.

I have one almost identical to this. I know it won't appeal to everyone and it's almost impossible to use but I love it.
It's modern and unusual but it's also pretty and very delicate and that's what appeals to me.
That is stunning  looks like it might have magically naturally occured on the sea bed or something..

Full fathom five my sexy cup & saucer set lies.

I love that pottery that looks like cabbages and anything seventies with the glaze slopped on (in brown and orange) . No one else seems that bothered about it so there's plently in the charity shops.

My sister had green and blue stoneware Denby for her wedding list, it's lovely, something really nice about it, you have to pick it up.

I think this may be an obsession that I never knew I had. :D

yep my sister did too but in a yuk brown/cream  & she found out she is pregnant today at last thro IVF so i forgive her :) :)

I quite like majolica too.

Mrs M, you can change the thread title if you like - bit like shutting the stable door now though...

Bloody hell, Mrs M, loads of Quimper stuff on ebay, now I've put in majolica

New title. A bit crap but I'm recovering from shifting 3 tons of compost yesterday and being kept awake by horrible kids on mopeds at 3am.

Used to sell Cosmic Design Works from Stoke-on-Trent, a lot of their tea-sets/vases were platinum coated like this one.

They went bust, it was a real shame as their stuff was amazing and totally different. :(

Where's the pub moose? I'm in Derby and they sound lovely so might be worth a trip out.

Three Stags Heads in Wardlow Mires - possibly the strangest pub you'll ever go to :D

Only open at weekends, they don't like to put the lights on, it's a Countryside Alliance hot-bed, with clientele trying out their guns behind the bar, wearing hunting hawks on their shoulders, and you get pounced on by lurchers and hounds. They don't serve lager on principal, and don't try the Black Lurcher bitter (8%+) unless you've nowhere else to go for a few days.

Best phone first - Geoff can be a funny bugger and you have to get him in the right mood to show you his pots. If you want to see them in action, order some of their fab food, which is served in the big bowls.

"Something of an acquired taste this pub. Only open at weekends and on Bank Holidays. Strictly no mobile phones allowed. The place is quite a zoo, as well as dogs you'll find hawks on the back of chairs and ferrets drying out by the fire. Folk evenings on Saturday nights. Huge portions of home cooked food. Take the A623 from Stoney Middleton towards Tideswell."

Cheers moose. Chances are Mr Mogden knows where it is/has popped in at some point. Sounds like just his and my cup of tea or pint of ale I suppose.

gsv and I are big ceramics fans, but strictly contemporary. Visited St Ives last week where there were loads of lovely potteries. Apparently the ceramicist Bernard Leach was based there, hence it being something of a home to contemporary ceramics.

gsv bought one wedding pressie and one pot for himself at a place called Fish Pye - similar examples from them:

for cheap quality wedgwood or spode visit the factory seconds shop

we oicked up some wedgewood plates for £1 each

slight dribble on the glaze on the base.

got a whole 8 piece dinner service for under £60

That's just the sort of stuff I like too - we saw some Lucie Rie in St Ives too. The Leach stuff on display was amazing.... and cost several thousand pounds!

Basically, as you might tell from the Fish Pye stuff I posted above, we're keen on plainish stuff with nice colours and glazes.

Yeah, I like those. Funilly enough, they're similar to the stuff I used to make. Only mine was taller and thiner, kinda phallic I guess. Sometimes covered in more volcanic glazes like some sort of ceramic STD.

edit: I forgot about one of my other favourites, Takeshi Yasuda. I watched him work once and I've never seen anything like it. He was throwing various pots on a tiny little electric wheel. He wore no apron, yet when he was finished he was still spotless. Amazing technique. This pot was thrown then lifted wholesale off the wheel within five minutes, creating the curved form. The handles were stuck on later.

I like a bit of colour in my house :p

There's a fair bit of gold on that RW fruits vase, I'm not a fan of gold, per se, which is why I just really want a cup & saucer, or maybe a bonbon bowl (for my fizzy cola bottles).

I would post up a picture of a lovely RW fruits cup & saucer, but I'm crap at posting pics. I'll just put a link to something on ebay instead.
