Waterproofs

Where you going pogo? I want a name not a reference :p

PS if you can afford it why not just get a Barbour? I like mine :)

Down the river Ythan. Work, with waterproofs, althouth the rain of the last couple of days is currently off & the sun is shining. :)

M&S are doing a passable Barbour immitation for @£50 ATM Charity shops can also be good if you don't mind having to clean & reproof it first.

Grangers spray wax for @£6 a tin is excellent & pretty easy to use, easily beats a £40 reproof from a dry-cleaners.

I'm on Deeside but we do lot of our wildlife work on the Ythan.

I have explored your local bomb-stores before now. As well as getting reprehensibly minced within a mile or so, often :D

On the island & up & down the sound on several occasions. We had some marine stuff going on there for a while & maintain a strong connection with the Dunstaffnage labs. Our perfect midgie hell is just a few miles south on the mainland. :D Also various parties, holidays fishing trips & other activities.

I've got an Altura waterproof for cycling in. Well spent £50 in my opinion. Have been in a few torrential downpours and it's always kept me very dry indeed. And it has a sort of bum flap thing, so you can sit on wet seaside benches to your hearts content without fear of a soggy bottom. The logo is fairly subtle too.

That's the one I've got! Only in yellow. It can handle the most torrential rain easily.

I wish I'd never asked - I'm more confused that ever! :D
Great suggestions though, folks - thanks :)

I'm not wild about Barbour or Belstaff because they're a bit unwieldy if the sun comes out and you have to take them off, plus I remember leaving oily marks everywhere I sat last time I had one.

North Face and Berghaus are the outerwear of choice of undesirables round here. I'm leaning towards the army stuff purely beause you have the option of removing the lining on some so it'd do for warm/wet weather, and the Regatta because the branding is a little more subtle, and none of them look super-sporty. Me in 'technical performance' clothing woud be a bit like a Morris Minor with go-faster stripes. :o

I bought a no-name wax jacket for 15 quid in the farmer's co-op thing near Aberystwyth.

Nearly 5 years and a couple of re-waxes later it's still going strong. The downside is that as it doesn't have a hood, you have to wear a hat with it. Although a lot of people I know look quite cool in stuff like that in an 'ironic' kind of way, I look like a farmhand. Ah well.

For proper waterproofs, you could do a lot worse than Guy Cotten commercial fishing oilskins. Non-breathable, tough as you like and inexpensive. Again, you might look a bit odd wearing 'em about town.

i've got a long-ish black peter storm job, with a nice big hood - i often find they're too small and you keep having to re-adjust it . it didn't cost that much and i've had it for years. can cram it into the very smallest of pockets as well :D

fanks - being married to a rich bird is

i got rid of my old parka cos it was too knackered and falling apart, and my padded camo jacket is not at all waterproof.

so the wife has got me a new gore tex fabulous camo parka :D

ya wot?!

You mean homeless people drinking special brew wear gore-tex jackets round your way?! :D

Or do you mean undesirables as in earnest, rambling Christians....

I've got a fab black goretex Berghaus jacket - £50 in the sales reduced from £99! Totally hurricane proof (tried and tested), light as a feather and no labels at all (apart from a tiny little Berghaus logo) - just black. Highly recommended!

Just out of curiosity, like, where did you get that?

You won't want to come up my way then, we're all undesirables  :p
I was trying not to use the C**v-word as it's not in common usage round here, but you know what I mean. :p

Sorry to get on the back of your thread moose but I have been looking for a Karrimor very orange cycling jacket for ages (Saw a guy wearing one) If anyone has seen one of these a link would be great :)

You want me to copy you?

No?

<gives "duh" look with raised eyebrows, indicating complete non-acceptance of this idea coupled with a firm indication that it is viewed as clearly unacceptable, and that that unacceptability ought to be viewed by the recipient (milesy) as being something that he knows, or ought to know, would be found to be a natural result of contemplation of this idea by any reasonable person>

i don't want you to copy me, i just feel that copying me is the right thing for a chap to do if he wants to wear the coolest clobber in the whole of london town :)

although i do want you to be warm and dry, because you are my best friend and i love you.

So where's the cheapest place to get re-proofing stuff. I'm assuming Millets isn't. Mine's an *wiggles round to look at back of chair* Outdoor Scene jacket I got for about £20 in T K Maxx. Quite long in the body and has some fancy toggles on the side so I can have it snuggled up tight when there's a bit of a blower going.

Oh I just remembered. For anyone who's after a cheap one, they're doing kiddie, men's and women's 3 in 1 jackets next week at Aldi.

They've got a quite nice looking purple waterproof coat in Millets for £17.49 at the moment (half price).

Shame you didn't need one a few weeks ago, moose, as I got rid of a couple on eBay!

Edited to add:

I didn't look like this in it

Blacks - in Stratford-upon-Avon :)

<off the point> Has anyone noticed how clothes prices are much lower outside London? </off the point>

Liverpool is an excellent to place to buy clothes. :)
