Not all of them; it makes perfect sense to say that Earth is a living planet. The chemical composition of the atmosphere and seas, even the rocks under our feet, is held well out of equilibrium by living processes.

But it equally makes sense to say that Mercury is (as far as we know) dead and devoid of life, on the grounds that its planetary chemistry is in simple thermal equilibrium.
