Warming up to Hatton V Mayweather

I'm a lazy SOB, so I'm pasting my 606 opinion:

"Land of the free and the home of the brave"? Have a word with y'self eh? That anthem deserves booing. The UK anthem is an anachronistic crock, glorifying our wonderful austrian monarchy, and as such is not taken seriously by any Brit without a title. The Yank anthem however, claims qualities that are patent lies, as demonstrated from Vietnam to G'mo.

Americans accusing Brits of racism? Oh, the irony....

And for the yanks (I'm guessing you may need a little help): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony

As for the boxing: Cracking fight. Hatton could definitely rattle him more, but I feel he got his tactics wrong. A rematch would be fantastic. And Mayweather? I thought him a total canute before the fight, but the respect he showed to Ricky as soon as the bout ended changed my mind. Beneath all the bluster, he showed himself to be a true gent, and the respect he showed the hitman was undeniably gratifying.

I really don't think that there would be any point. Hatton did well for the first couple of rounds. What changed wasn't that Hatton disimproved it was that Mayweather adapted, learned and gradually took Hatton apart. He started catching Hatton every time he tried to get inside and when Hatton did get inside he found that Mayweather could match him there too. He was too fast and too accurate and his defence was incredible. Hatton did as well as he could. It was a brave performance and he did, briefly, have Mayweather rattled, which is a lot more than most of his other opponents can say.

But he simply isn't in Mayweather's league as a boxer. There's no shame in that. Nobody is at the moment. It is a privilege to watch someone that good go about their work.

I think we saw the best of a much (and often justly IMO) reviled sport in this fight and the post match comments.

Surely if you pay £15 for a fight its not too much to expect that the fight can be broadcast to you without interuption by advertisements?

Americans not understanding irony = oldest joke in the world.

And yet you're still antagonised enough to post a reposte.

It's like yanks accusing us of having bad teeth and me posting my dental history in reply.

Arf. :D

Really enjoyed it all, bits-and-bobs of the pre-amble and undercard, shite 80s vids, the booze and spliffs (rarely do any of that at home these days) and waking my ladygirl up at 04:30 thinking she'd go "bleaghh fuck off" and not come down for it, but she did.

Fight went as I secretly expected unfortunately. Fair play to Ricky who had a go, but my my Floyd was marvellous, he'll go down as a great and there's no shame in losing to a great. Not read all the threads and I assume the ref's early shenanigans have been touched upon, he was far to busy IMO and spoiled the first half. Whether or not this would've seriously impacted upon the final result is conjecture, personally I doubt it; Mayweather was far too good. He's far too good for anyone at the moment. It's hindsight of course, at the time I was calling the ref and saying get out of it you cunt etc, even me lass sober as a judge was having a go at him.

Sometimes over the years I and many others have thought "rematch!" after a big fight, but no. I went to bed thinking it'd be pointless.
