Want to work at a festival and get in for free?

Well, I just applied to be a steward for Glastonbury and Bestival.

Clearly I'd like to know if I am going before the 6th April as I will be buying a ticket. I'd do Latitude but I have already booked Lovebox.

I've re-read that email and it looks like I'm in subject to a reference. Better inform my referee of that then :hmm:

sounds like the one I got then :)

If there's a problem, they'll get in touch, otherwise next thing you hear will be about your H&S training I think. I sat in on their practise session for this, expect group activities and writing lists on whiteboards  :D

ok, i'm doing bestival and latitude :). i think this means that i need to buy a tent.

same...and ooo scary snap. Your the one who has the same face as me!! :D
we'll be able to reconize each other

Filled out the form today allthough im pretty sure i spelt my mates name wrong on the form :o he's got some weird latin name that he never goes by.

What's the difference between a steward and a campaigner? :hmm::)

I did Oxfam campaigining at Leeds and V last year. We had to do a four hour shift each day, wandering round collecting sigs for a climate change petition and handing out badges and campaign material :)

i sort of wish id chosen that option :o

JTG - can we change?

eek! we could have some scary moments ahead :)

Glasto, Glade and BD

Hopefully if dobs got swapped earlier it should work out fairly well - I gave balders, Thora and sam my name and dob already so if they've used it then we could end up with one big Urban shift at various festies (with me wiskers and derv supervising :p )
stick around til the monday night at glade if you can, i think I'm getting as many of my crew as possible to stay til monday and doing a bit of a crew party monday night. it's a bit of an attempt to make sure i actually have some crew still on sunday night / monday so I don't have to blackmail people out of the crew bar on the sunday night, but could be a laugh (not got permission yet, but it'll happen)

Oxfam are now charging a £20 admin fee PER FESTIVAL out of the £165 deposit you have to lay down

So you have to pay to volunteer?!

FFS

your kidding me?????

i thought that £20 would be deduced per festival if you cancelled(within their timescale for cancellations)
but it dint read everyhting THAT carefully so i could be wrong of course..
if you are right (god, i hope you arent)i wish i hadnt been so quick to sign up...3 festivals =£60

no, that's only if you cancel.

i wish people would read stuff properly before posting rubbish.

Beautiful Days is now full up, hopefully this means that people who've applied already have definitely got places.

Plenty of stewards still needed for all the others including almost 500 still required for the Glade.

According to the stewarding forums the office are hoping to have references etc sorted for when Glasto tickets go on sale so people will know for sure whether they need to buy one. However, given that there are still places available at Glasto then I'd imagine you'll be fine unless your reference goes wrong :D

Any queries best to direct them through the stewarding forums at http://www.oxfam-stewards.org.uk/forum/ rather than me, they know best, I'm just a messenger innit :)

Kinda looking forward to this. Something different. So not same old same old.

My reference has already been done. I'd still like to get confirmation email before this Sunday if thats possible. Without that I'm going to buy a ticket. I can always send it back.

I'm sure they'll try, they do appreciate how people want to know for sure before tickets go on sale.

An eight hour shift on the gates can be tiring but it's what you make of it. The overnights can be a bit wearing but it's all good if you keep smiling :)

Glastonbury, Latitude and Beautiful Days are now full with further applicants being added to the waiting list.

Only just checked a couple of days ago and I saw that Glastonbury had 300 odd places. That was quick!

Well, since I had my confirmation email, I've been on pins, wondering if it was certain that I'd got a place. I've read through a couple of FAQ on the Oxfam steward site and it seems that....

Dear *jontz01*,

Glastonbury, Beautiful Days, Latitude & Reading now all full

Only double figure availability for Leeds, Bestival & Summer Sundae

Other Glasto jobs are listed on the official website here. This includes traffic management, workers beer co., festival medical services, litter pickers etc etc

Bumped 'cos due to a bug in the online application system, they don't have as many stewards as they thought they did and have reopened applications to Glastonbury, Cornbury, Glade, Womad, Bloom, Summer Sundae, Leeds, Reading and Bestival
