Want to work at a festival and get in for free?

Application form goes live online on Monday.

Do you have a picture of yourself on your computer?
Who will you use for a reference?
Have you got the money in your account for the deposit?

Yes I'm nagging but there's too many cool people wanting to apply for them to miss out :D

don't have a pic atm. am hoping my digi camera isn't totally borked and i can use it :hmm:

does it have to be a strictly passport type picture?

Nope. I used one for mine but basically it just has to be about 3.5cm by 4.5cm and show your face. You should be able to resize it in Word (instructions in the stewarding FAQ).

hmm reference who can I use? :(

From the FAQ:

"Similar to applying for a job, we don’t want you to give your mum or your housemate. We would consider a college lecturer, employer, or someone who knows you in a formal capacity to be appropriate. Your referee will be emailed with a proforma to return to us stating their relationship to you, and whether they consider you to be suitable to act as an Oxfam steward. If we fail to get a satisfactory response, we will contact you."

I haven't done this before but I think I could be very much into this.
probably try and get in Glade or Latitude..

:D

what does that bit mean please.
Also whats this about training or something is it done all over the Uk? I am based in Glasgow ATM

cheers for the thread Its not something I would have found out or thought about otherwise

:)

Bumped - 'cos applications open today and I would suggest that if you want to steward at Glastonbury or Beautiful Days you do it asap as places are likely to be limited!

What's the difference between a steward and a campaigner? :hmm::)

stewards smile, direct people to the toilets and generally aid the smooth running of the festy on the ground

campaigners man the Oxfam stall and actively try and raise money for the charity.

sterwarding is far better imo :)

I'm not sure baldrick - is it a photo already on your computer? What is it if not a jpeg?

If anyone else who's doing this wants to send me their dob etc and I'll send you mine if you want to try to get the same shifts.

applied for latitude and summer sundae. was tempted by glastonbury, but it would involve too much time off work. my payment failed though so i've had to email them :(

I'm confused - I filled in the form and now it says "please procede to WorldPay" but I can't see that anywhere, and pressing submit doesn't do anything.

I had the same problem for ages ..
means someting in your form isn't rgiht.

it should be in red writing at the top.

I had my DOB as dd/mm/yy instead of the dd/mm/yyyy that the form was after took me ages to see it

I did the same thing! It's not clear at all that the red writing means it's wrong - I had to call the help line and the woman on the other end explained several times before I got it :o

I know I always completly lose my cool with long application forms. my brother asked me why I was swearing at the computer.

I saw it said my dOB was wrong but it WAS my dob!! ....just formatted wrong...
grrr

Which ones are you doing? :)

If you get the confirmation email from Worldpay, does that mean you have a place?
(i have applied for Glastonbury, Beautiful Days, Latitude and Bestival.)

thanks for the heads up..after much deliberation i decided to apply for latitude, womad and bestival:D..as the deposit is the same doesnt matter if you are doing 1 or many festivals :Dnow i better sign off and try to get to grips with this online form..wish me luck!!!

ps..oxfam helpfully mention that people wanting to steward at green man or end of the road festivals can apply via those festies websites directly..im considering it but will have to wait as it will mean more deposit money upfront:eek:

Ah nice one, I wanted to work GM this year but oxfam didnt seem to be doing it. Top festie btw.

I should be doing glasto again

Glasto, Glade and BD

Hopefully if dobs got swapped earlier it should work out fairly well - I gave balders, Thora and sam my name and dob already so if they've used it then we could end up with one big Urban shift at various festies (with me wiskers and derv supervising :p )

Wychwood are recruiting directly this year as well

When do you think we'll hear back about whether we're in or not?

not sure, you had any emails back yet?

I got one back straight away that confirmed that subject to references, payment etc I was in for all three. I then got another from WorldPay confirming the payment has cleared.

If you haven't got one or other of these then I'd ring the helpline after consulting the FAQs on the website. If you have got them then read carefully - I'm not sure whether the system is the same for 'general public' as it is for us previous stewards.

It's a new system this year - used to be done by post and you had to wait a couple of weeks for confirmation but they're reducing the carbon footprint doodad by doing it all online now.
