Wankiest musical genre?

Psy-trance for me. Absolutely horrid music.....I have tried to enjoy it, no amount of assistance has convinced me that it is good.

whilst some other little twat is yelling indechipherable bullshit lyrics in that annoying Napalm Death voice on a stage.

at least they bother with lyrics - can't be any worse than the twat who listens to XXX-bpm dance music on an ipod whilst sitting on his arse on a tube with no intention of dancing whatsoever.

Wankiest genre for me is Jazz.

That's not Country and Western. This is Country and Western.

Wanky Genres. Hard to say. Twee indie nonsense I suspect, though I have a deep and enduring loathing of DJ culture and opera is probably one of the worst noises that humans can make with their mouths.

Classical - it's the only genre of music that's got it's own little glassed-off area in a record store, where the delicate ears of its fans haven't got to be offended by whatever horrors are playing in the rest of the store.

OK, so plenty of the music is good, but I reckon a big proportion of its fans don't even care that much about it, they're just attracted to the genre because they're snooty and pretentious.

and they always take up the nicest portion of music shops on the top floor with leather arm chairs and shit. :( ok, granted the jazz and world music sections are up there too, but the classical sections are always nicer.

you people who say jazz/jazz funk is wanky: infidels!

i'd probably go along with Death Metal, as a kind of strange outsider genre. Country Music is too general and mainstream to get my vote. The flip side of course would be Happy Hardcore. While simultaneously being the wankiest of music genres, a carcinoid offshoot of the rave canon, it's also fascinating that it exists at all and you can't help but be intrigued by it.

Nah, jazz funk is wank... Jazz on the other hand is not, admittedly it's taken wankery quite well in the last 30 years, but there are still good players out there and there are still some nice, smoky jazz bars.

country music is all about male singers beating up their wives who don't understands them and female singers who get beaten up by their husbands who don't understand them.
Country Music speaks the soul of the common folk. It reflects the concerns, hopes, faith, perseverence, disappointments and blues of everyday folks as no other music has.

I can understand why people don't like it and fair enough but it's certainly not the wankiest musical genre.

I dunno about this second paragraph though; my dad is a classical guitarist and lifelong 'classical' music listener (although according to him the term is inaccurate, as strictly speaking classical means just a specific period rather than orchestral music in general) and he is from quite a working class background, wears sandals, has long hair and earned about 7000 pounds a year when he was in London before. Mind you, even he admits that there is a certain aspect of classical music concerts which he himself dislikes, of middle/upper class types who attend them just to be 'seen there', and dno't really listen to the music.

The main issue I take with my dad about classical music is this assumption that it's the only musical form with genuine musical validity. I mean I like to listen to it and all, and I can see that it's complex etc, but to me, there is plenty of rock stuff, like Sonic Youth, which is very complex, yet he just sees that as noise...

Not when Prog is still roaming the earth...

notable exceptions in a sea of codshit surely

i wouldn't say so. Some of the finest pop of the last decade has fallen under the banner of 'R&B'. Most of it is shit, but then most of most genres is shit. In fact, most music is shit.

R&B.

There's loads of rubbish r&b out there. But there's loads of rubbish UK guitar music, too...

There's great stuff though, as well. Lucy Pearl, Aloe Blacc...

TLC - No Scrubs? Missy? Outkast? Aaliyah - Try Again? Beyonce - Crazy In Love?

you sure?

Agreed, that stuff really isn't that bad. No Scrubs in particular is a very good pop tune IMO, and Outkast speak for themselves.

Traditional or power heavy metal with clean vocals: as a fan of death, black & doom (and however of blues, indie and jazz too) etc I cannot be having Iron Maiden, Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonforce, Wolf, Angra, Hammerfall and all that.

RnB sucks too, no doubt, that and soul.
