Waltz with Bashir

Lord Camomile

Yipchaa!
Read a tiny bit about this in a Cannes round-up and it's got me really excited.

One night at a bar, an old friend tells director Ari Folman about a recurring nightmare in which he is chased by 26 vicious dogs. Every night, the same number of beasts. The two men conclude that there’s a connection to their Israeli Army mission in the first Lebanon War of the early eighties. Ari is surprised that he can’t remember a thing anymore about that period of his life.

Intrigued by this riddle, he decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, his memory begins to creep up in surreal images …

Not only is it a fascinating subject, but such an interesting way of presenting and executing it - a animated documentary

Official website.

Only downer is I can't find a UK release date :( Anyone got any ideas?

Certainly an idea, but I'd really like to watch it in a cinema, so I was thinking more about any ideas as to a UK release date/how to find out when it is ;)

I'm surprised at the lack of interest in this film on here. It looks like it has some of the most visually stunning animation I've seen and a unique take on some powerful, controversial subject matter. It was being talked up on the Culture Show last night as being one of the most important Israeli films of all time.

It's not likely I'm gonna get a chance to see it at my local multiplex, so I'm interested to hear from anyone else who's watched it. :)

I'm definitely going to make the effort. There's a big feature on it in this month's Empire, along with a five star review. It looks amazing.

i watched this last night.
my flat mate was going to go, but couldnt so i took his tickets. I had no idea what it was or what it was about.

I really liked it.

We watched it last week at the Barbican cinema.

Powerful stuff and a really interesting way of presenting the subject matter. Would highly recommend it!

Definitely not a 'feel-good' film though :(

I saw it at the Renoir, it was ace.

spoiler and I cant get the bloody button thingy to work

I really like the contrast between the animation and the real footage of the final scene. IMO, it represented they way that people recount difficult memories with dettachment so they don't have to relive them.

Just seen it with brother and his wfe. Wow
Cloo saw it last week - with baby Ez
I thought the footage at the end was an astonishingly powerful way of presenting the reality of the massacre.

On a filmic level, it also related to the earlier story of the soldier with an imaginary camera that provided detatchment from the war around him, but who found reality imposed on him when his defense mechanism broke down.
