Wallander

Ditto re: how to deal with the death of the Linda actress. No mention of Linda's absence in the first episode of the news Swedish series.
Maybe they'll write her out of it as leaving after the death of Stefan in the last episode.
He does have a boss - she arrives halfway through the first episode, and turns out to be his neighbour, and to at least seemingly be romantically interested in him. Should turn out disastrously if the previous love interests are anything to go by.

She's not his boss - she's the prosecutor. Linda's absence was briefly touched on when the prosecutor woman (who is definitely being set up as Wallander's love interest by the looks of it) asked him whether he had children and there was a world of pain in his face.

Yeah, but he's definitely kind of subordinate to her, isn't he? The way she bossed him was prety interesting when she arrived. I thought the Kurt actor played really well in that episode. He can really do that troubled detached and under extreme strain very well.
I clocked the Linda moment. Wonder how they'll write what happened in. It would be prety brave to just leave it as a painful absence for a while, given the real life circumstances. They'll have to account for her absence sometime, though, I guess. Especially if he gets personal with the prosecutor.
And what happened to the rather cool Anne Britt? Wasn't she still the boss in the last episode of the last series? She was also something of a potential love interest, I always thought.

Ann Brit is a really important character in the books and worryingly she's disappeared in the Swedish TV version we're seeing.

As to whether the foxy new prosecutor is Wallander's boss the situation seems to be that while for the first time Wallander appears to be the senior police officer in Ystad he has to work with the prosecutor, and report to her in all his investigative work. So she IS de facto the boss of him, and can even direct his inquiries, as this handy guide to police work in Sweden explains.

Anne Britt left towards the end of the last series - they had a leaving party for her.

I thought that I might have a problem with subtitles, but not at all.
When I watch French subs, I feel it 'sounds' right and it's easy 'cos I have schoolboy French.
Swedish I didn't expect to forget that I was reading, so easily.
I've even learnt a few words now:)

I get really confused, having read the books and seen the Swedish series they are all familiar but slightly different. To much Nordic Noir is confusing.I like the english versions portrayal of Swedish openness (geographical I mean) but it doesn't have the underlying angst of the scandi stuff.

I read the book and found it very depressing but gripping and it was better than tonight's tele version.

I'm all for a bit of an artistic licence, but the character just did ridiculously stupid things.
Dogs of Riga is probably one of the hardest to film nowadays - the book was written in th elate 80s/early 90s I think and the situation's so different now. It's also v difficult to get the thought process etc... of the main character into such a short timeframe, particularly for this story ( and despite the box being one of the shorter ones). Last nights was OK but, imo, not as good as some of the others and I can see what you mean about needing to understand the thought process of W more.
