WALL-E - New Pixar Movie

gave me the impression that someone at pixar had been playing portal. :D

Nice theory!

Firky: I can see where you're coming from, but you're completely wrong about this. If WALL-E was aimed at adults, the stuff you mention, I'm sure, would have been adressed. As it's not, then obviously things are going to be simplified or glossed over. In future, when encountering a thread on something like this, which you know you'll hate, why not do everyone a favour and leave the thread alone (or at least the spoilers ).

It's a public forum discussing people's opinions on the film - if you don't wish to see that... jog on :p

I didn't enjoy it that much either.

HERETIC!

My GF and I thought it was unbelievably boring. She fell asleep, and I went to the loo to play Tetris. My daughter thought it was OK, which, for her, is the equivalent of saying it's the biggest pile of shit ever. I was expecting it to be brilliant. Damn you, Urban - I could have taken my daughter to Kung-Fu Panda for her birthday instead of this! :(

Should have listened to firky! :p

Well, you were the only person I (sort of) knew who didn't like the film, but you only watched about ten minutes on a pirated copy, and they watched the whole thing. Don't blame you, mind.

It was just so dull. There was nothing original in it at all; I know wall-e was number 5 from Short Circuit - in schmaltz as well as looks - but he really was number 5's fatter, stupider grandson. The final title sequence, that I heard was great? Nicked wholesale from Mannequin. The rest? So dull that I can't be arsed picking it apart more.

It would have made an OK ten-minute short. Maybe. But not for the price of cinema entry.

I thought it was great! Went with some friends, expecting to see Batman fannying around and blowing things up, but we ended up choosing this (for timing reasons) and i'm pretty damn glad we did!! It's animated fantastically, humerus, thought provoking and just generally well done. I can't imagine how jaded and cynical some of you must be, to pick apart a fucking Pixar film, piece by piece, like some kid trying to "pwn" Shakespeare.

Everyone else in the cinema seemed to enjoy it, and whilst some bits might have slightly gone over the heads of kids, I don't really get how kids could find it dull either. Hmmm, i'm genuinely surprised at some people not enjoying this, not really sure why, i guess i'm being naive and over opinionated! :p

btw, I liked Shrek too. OH ZOMGG!!!!11!

isnt it funny how a kids film has caused such a commotion amongst adults?

you wouldnt have thought it was made for the younger audience...

Since we're so used to the inuendos and hidden messages for the older non-toddler viewer in past triumphs such as Toy Story, and references we could understand if we went with our kids (which i thought was a great way of making the parents trip to the cinema more enjoyable), it seems that (in the eyes of the reviewer) these films are now made for the adults!

It seems that the kids reviews dont even come into the equation!

Im not a parent myself - but an animator myself, and think that the environmental message it is teaching kids can only be a good thing.
I dont think it will be condescending or patronising or fucking fascist , and am looking forward to seeing it next week with my family. Anything which uses the same tactics of the genius that is Nick Aardman in the Wallace and Gromit films (Grand Day Out especially), where a character like Gromit can communicate deep emotion and expressions without any narration/speech, to me shows the strength of an animator/animation studio, and also it's success.

True animation doesnt need the voice of a celebrity to give it Kudos. Infact, its doesnt need a voice at all.

I'm annoyed at this film because the only reason I went to see it was as a treat for my daughter's birthday. Naturally, this means I was hoping for something good.

Not sure how criticisng a film is like some kid trying to pwn Shakespeare (when do kids ever try to pwn Shakespeare, anyway? I really have no clue what you mean by that).

Others on here have gone into great detail about why they liked the film. I've gone into a few of the reasons why I didn't like the film. Sorry for not realising that you're only allowed to give positive reviews if it's a kids' film.

Pirated copy that is DVD quality on a 42" HDTV screen :p

I watched ten minutes of it then watched it properly when I was bored.

Good point about a ten minute short.

has to be one of the most overly-hyped films i've ever seen.

it was ok. fairly endearing in parts, schmaltzy in others, a bit 'politics by numbers' in others.

entertaining enough but 'a masterpiece'? my arse!

The message of the film is one I agree with, but it was pretty patronising the way they did it. My ten-year-old daughter even found that annoying. Kids don't have to be preached to. Said ten-year-old was also incredulous about the way these people, whose bodies had lower bone density (yes, she used that phrase) from living in space for so long, were so easily able to return to Earth and become farmers off the back of one tiny plant.

Just got back from the cinema, thoroughly enjoyed every second. Yes, it pays hoage/stals bits from other films (whatever way you choose to look at it), and it made no secret of the Apple connection. But it was brilliant, funny, visually stunning, and emotional. Easily Pixars best yet.

a bit 'politics by numbers'

Erm, it's a kids film. How deep do you want it?

Kids are capable of understanding a lot more than that, especially when it comes to environmentalism, which is hardly a new concept for schoolchildren when it's part of the science curriculum and is made a (justifiably) big deal of.

The quality of the animation stopped it from being utter shite. My 6 year old son didn't seem to impressed either. Was pretty boring though maybe a good message for kids in it. Then again so did Batman should oftaken him to see that. Would of loved the pencil scene.

I am surprised you didn't seem to like it.

I thought it was an amazing film, wasn't bored by it at all, can understand the schmaltz side of it, but honestly, you went and watched a disney movie and were offended by the schmaltz? It was a disney movie, come on, if you didn't walk in knowing it was going to be schmaltzy then where you been?

I can understand how you might have felt that it was boring, but I felt that the lack of dialogue at the start really let you soak in the world they had created, and it helped develop the character of a little robot that had been alone for centuries.

I personally found it very engrossing, totally entertaining, and was really impressed by it. Though I am an adult and didn't watch it with kids.

Well, I can't quite believe it's taken me this long to see this but funally did today. Engaging, funny, touching, intelligent and utterly brilliant. For me, it's one of the most wonderfully crated animated films ever made.

I could easily watch it many times over and doubt I could be bored by it.
