There's another one at the top of Helix Road at the top of the steps to Endymion Road. In addition to venting gas, they were also used as anti-syphon pipes wherever there was a significant gradient.

You know part of this is to get everyone looking for stink pipes. There is one on Brixton water lane , three on Dulwich Road, one on Brockwell Park, one on Lilford Road, one on Walworth road... shall I go on? Please add to my collection...

Anyone read the "Drinkwater Diaries" account of the Effra walk?

Drinkwater Diaries was a book published a few years ago about pub crawls along the routes of London's underground rivers.
