Walked into a Jam Session Played this.

Mine has been heavily customised, I have no idea if it was ever an original, but if it was its been butchered since then.

It has different pick ups, twin open coil uncovered humbuckers, I am pretty sure the neck has been changed too.

Was checking wiki to see if I could tell if the pegs were original and I noticed it mentioned a 2004 re-issue, but nothing before that, I bought this one 18 years ago from a guy in a pub band for 250 quid.

Might be an original body, could of course be some sort of knock-off entirely. It has been so modified its hard to tell who made it originally. If it is a copy they did get the entire tail piece/bridge section right.

Yeah there were no others until the 2004 re-issues.
Hang on it says on wiki that it was made up until 1980.

That micro neck tilt thing explains why my neck is a bit fucked, what a shit idea, it makes it far less robust.

ahh cheers for the heads up.

thanks for the compliments too.

Yeah its a 1972 Fender Tele through body design. It is very nice, incredibly low action on it.

Found a better picture.

I've always liked the look of them, never played one though :(

I used to hire mine out, fuck knows why anyone wanted to pay to use it. It's OK but not that great. I have recently set up and cleaned mine up and it's a lot nicer but I don't really like the fat neck. I prefer Gibsons or my Jaguar for playablity and sound.

Mine I think is definitely a squire neck. I checked the headstock out and it looks very similar to that shape.

I think the squire possibly had a thinner neck?

would it not say squire on the headstock if that were the case ? (this might be a dumb suggestion)

There is not a single marking, name, number or indicator of where the hell any of it came from anywhere on the entire guitar. (Except the tuning heads which have Made in Germany and what looks like an S on them)

When I said squire, I meant design rather then manufacturer.

Does none of it have fender on it? Would be a bit odd to eradicate any fender element outside and in. No fender F on the bridge or the neck bolt?

Nope not a mark on the guitar anywhere, the neck is definitely a later edition though I think, I remember the guy telling me he put it on when I bought it.

Yeah but you would still have the plate on the body to join the neck. Throwing that away would just mean getting another one, which is just daft. I'm pretty sure mine has a number on it, maybe a massive F.

Have you ever opened it up?

You mean the metal plate that bolts the neck to the Body of the guitar on the back?

I have never opened it no :p and it is plain.

eta oops that image was huge let me find another one...there we go. This image is not meant to resemble how it actually looks, just a random picture of a back plate.

Yes I mean like that.

So the person that stuck a new neck on your's threw that away?
I would wonder if any part of it was ever a fender at all.

Smash it and worry about the rest later.

Whether any part of it was ever original or not, it is still the best guitar I have ever played.

If you ever get a chance to play it, you will put your fingers on the neck of the guitar and think, surely this has fret buzz somewhere, no way it can have an action this low on the first fret an be clear all the way up the neck.

Yet it is!

An astonishingly easy guitar to play.

Yeah, I get the peter Green thing there too. What amp were you using? Liking the drum groove as well. The little snare flans and rolls. Try and do stuff like that myself.... Allbeit on a drum machine. Can sound fairly authentic, if I spend enough time mixing them. Really should finish some stuff myself and make fit for public consumption.
