Bloody great result. And yes, fuck off Maggot
Well it was more entertaining than England!
Austria's 3-2 home win against group leaders Serbia has rather spiced things up. Current standings:
Serbia - 18
Wales - 17
ROI - 16
Monday night: all to play for!
(Although Serbia at home to second-from-bottom Georgia in their final match suggests Wales and ROI will still only be battling for 2nd)
So if Serbia lose and Wales vs ROI is a draw, that goal difference that was irrelevant for Wales, would be proven to have been massively relevant after all.
Or am I still missing some wierd quirky rule?
Game on for Monday then.
May the best team win - and I honestly don't care which it is, as long as they go further in Russia than ingerlund.
I agree with the sentiments but just this once I want Wales to qualify. Just give us one go in my lifetime. Please!
interesting numbers around-pretty much nothing will be sorted until Sunday / Monday. some well odd outcomes yet possible from what i can see.
I think in theory would could get all the home nations (do ROI count as home nations? ) at the same WC. Not been paying full attention though so could be wrong on that.
That stupid bloody home draw with Georgia continues to fucking grate. But yes, dream is still on. Maybe Serbia will similarly fuck up and Monday will be a glorious day.
You can have it gladly if you win on Monday.
I fear Ireland might get embarrassed anyway if we qualify. We just lack a bit of quality - and 90% of Irish people would be glad to cheer on their Celtic cousins. Its kinda like having 'skin in the game' but not so much that it actually hurts.
If wales win we probably qualify for play offs, if Ireland win they probably won't! So Russia less likely for Ireland than Wales.
Barring stupid results (mainly Serbia not winning) the ninth second placed team is going to be in Group H, Bosnia or Greece. So yes, the winner of Wales/Ireland will qualify (for the second place play-offs).
Actually, scratch that. It seems to rest largely on Cyprus at home to Greece tonight. Greece win, Ireland are in serious trouble.
A draw on Monday could very easily see Wales in ninth.
Possible, but a draw may be enough. A win however will get us in play-offs.
I'm assuming victory for either Ireland or Wales. There's no way a draw will be enough (12 pts from 8 games). Most groups already beat this tally. And it will be impossible if Greece win in Cyprus tonight. The crucial games are in group H tonight and also Ukraine/Croatia, a game where neither team wants a draw either.
Just looked ta the fixtures again, a draw won't be enough for Wales, but it would need some freak results for Ireland to qualify even with a win.
Anyway, the really big news? Argentina lose away to Ecuador on Wednesday (where they haven’t won since 2001) and that means no Argentina in the World Cup finals. Even a draw may not save them. And they haven’t won any of their last four games.
No Messi at the World Cup?
And no Netherlands! Will be a strange one!
Bosnia losing, which is good for every other second placed teams
If Bosnia lose and Greece fail to win, I think I'm right in saying that Wales only need a draw to reach the playoffs on Monday.
Fuckers have equalised.
And now they’re ahead.
It’s all your fault!
There’s still a chance a draw will be enough if Scotland fail to win tomorrow!
No because Slovakia are already better than that (on gd).
Yeah, tbh I can't find another realistic scenario that keeps Wales out of ninth with a draw.
I have a horrible feeling of dread that we will suffer the injustice of being the only unbeaten second-place team and the only one to miss out on the playoffs. Stupid three points for a win.
Don’t worry. We’ll win and everything else will be irrelevant!
FIFA should have introduced a rule that any team undefeated in qualifiers gained an extra point to prevent such an occurrence!
Belgium back in front!
Looks like a fantastic match. Any other time I'd be cheering on Bosnia. Go Belgium.
Time to become a Cyprus fan for the evening. Draw would be fantastic.
