Wales vs Scotland friendly international

West Ham are doing a fair amount to aid that, mind you. Collison is about as Welsh as me but chose Wales cos he thought he'd never be England standard, which is a shame as for my money he's gonna be as good as gerrard.

And we nurtured the defensive collosus who is James collins

might be the point actually. That footballer get better if they spend crucial formative years at bigger clubs with lots of resources to develop them, rather than staying with moderate sized clubs.

"We can still rise now, and be that nation again!"

COME ON SCOTLAND!

Northern Ireland managed to go way up the rankings quite quickly and then got drawn in a group which saw Slovakia and Slovenia who were both seeded lower come good.

and Scotland managed to fuck up their best chance for ages, by somehow contriving to be the 3rd best team in a rubbish group.

Yeah. I do think it just happens to be the case that a lot of good players are coming through for English clubs who happen to be welsh right now. In five years time a bunch could come through who are scottish.

Mind you, a very sizeable proportion appear to be from cardiff originally, the scottish clubs should look at what cardiff are doing to find good players to bring through

You only lost 3-0 this time, this could be a turning point in your history!;)

look on the bright side.

Thats 45mins of football we've played without conceding a goal.:D

Burley's sacked. Hopefully the board will all resign.

Time for a massive reshuffle before our next game against Czech Rep in March.

I have to say, I'd never want to be a National Manager. Okay the rewards if you take your country to greatness are huge.
Far more likely though, if you do badly though the vilification for trying your best is horrendous.

actually the only delusional thing that got the england fans going was telling us that the english press would be all over this if it were england. Which was horseshit.

That said I was impressed with Simon (?) Church when he played against us for Reading.
Yes, because the English press never ever go on and on and on and fucking on about their victories, do they?

If I had a quid for every time I heard, "they think it's all over..." I'd be a rich man by now.

Still, if you're the kind of England fan that wouldn't extract any pleasure out of seeing your team stuffing the Scots, I wonder if maybe you're missing something.

Who's your club team, btw?

Ipswich Town.

I´m always happy when England win. I just don´t have any particular enmity toward the Scots, and I don´t think I feel any better ´cause we´d stuffed them.

Read back your own posts. You might want to remove the irrational bit from your statement then.

If you read back through my posts you'll see that I don't get insanely excited about my nation getting a "run of the mill" result against a team that have hit rock bottom.

I just don't understand this irrational hatred and jealousy from the Welsh fans ? It stinks of xenophobia tbh

Maybe the bitter taffys should stick to what they're better at ie. throwing an oval ball around at each other.

It's the golden generation

They'll be lifting the World Cup in 2014

Presuming they qualify that is

Get a grip.

It'll be interesting to re-read this thread about a week into the World Cup, when after months of buildup in the press claiming England have got a realistic chance of winning it they scrape a 1-0 win against someone like New Zealand or a 1-1 draw with Egypt. It's happened in every World Cup that I can remember. So to say that Welsh fans/media get over-excited is very, very rich! It was a very good performance from a very promising young team, which is a testament to the amazing work Brian Flynn and the Welsh coaching set-up has done with a very small pool of players.

Don't worry, I'm sure the Welsh media would be just as excited if Wales ever make it to the finals of a major tournament.

At least the Scots can't be accused of that :D

Cymru am byth.

The Celtic nations matches will be a great move, yes they're still kind of friendlies but there's a bit more passion involved.

Wales is a small nation but surely destined to be punching above our weight in the next few years. Living next to England and with alot of our people supporting English clubs, we inevitably have ideas above our station in terms of sport, but this crop of players has as good a chance as ever to match those ambitions. We were without 4 premiership players as well!

First home game I haven't been to for about two years : (

Put it this way, there would undoubably be a level of excitement if we were playing ROI or France, even if it were a friendly.

Scotland, Wales and Norn Iron, well, it's like having a kick about with the Faroe Island's tbh. No one really gives a shit unless the game has any kind of qualification significance.

That's why I think it would be a great idea to create a "Home Nations" end of season tournament. We could resurrect some old rivalries with the toy-town nations.

I reckon it would even help them to raise the standard of their football if we gave them something to play for, like the minuscule chance of winning some kind of tournament once a decade.

Well at least you recognise we're a nation! That's a start.

I don't mind "toy-town nation", its when people describe Wales as a) "region" or b) "principality" that it's facepalm time.

Just to clarify, Wales have qualified for a major tournament and reached the quarter-final both times, which is the same level as England have managed in every one they've qualified for apart from two. Do I need to point out as well, that England didn't qualify for a World Cup from 1962 until 1982? You only just scraped in quite a few other times as well. Arguably the biggest underachievers in world football!

Can I just say two things here, ignoring all the blah blah on here (except the pro-Wales bits which I heartily endorse)

1. Aaron Ramsey is the best young Welsh footballer I have ever seen, I have been watching Wales home and away since 1976. Thank fuck England can't buy him (or Collison or Matthews)

2. Joe Jordan I fucking hate you, still
