Wales vs Scotland friendly international

So on that basis you think there'd be no taunting, no piss taking, no relishing of the victory and not much interest at the game?

Decades of matches between the two teams would seem to prove you wrong on that score.

But football has moved on. City aren't United's main rivals any more. Everton aren't Liverpools. Arsenal fans probably give less of a fuck beating Spurs than they d Chelsea.

take our conversation for instance. You actually remember being knocked out at Wembley as a positive experience, that you beat the old enemy. I, on the other hand, could barely recall what year that playoff was, and only guessed at 2000 cause I remembered that Keegan was in charge and Paul Scholes scored at Hampden.

That is, Scotland being knocked out means more to you than England actually qualifying by knocking Scotland out means to me.

just FYI , UPDW is one of your lot

I'm English, and to me England v Scotland is a huge game which I always look forward to happening. The size of the teams doesn't matter. It's the same as if we (west ham) get to play millwall.

If we had lost the tie i would have been pissed off, losing the match and getting through i wouldn't give a fuck.

Same if it was millwall on a two legged competition.

Even if it was just a meaningless friendly, with England playing their second string ?

It'd be like a West Ham(reserves) v Millwall(reserves) pre-season friendly. You might get a small minority that get all excited about it, but most would find it laughable and consider the result as insignificant, whatever the score ends up as.

because we were out, and possibly out of embarassment. But not ´cause it was Scotland.

Come on, if our second string had beaten Scotland 3-0 we'd all be laughing about it for weeks

laughing at stuff is what football fans do. I´d laugh if our second string battered Middlesborough or someone completed unrelated. Just cause it´s fun watching your lot humiliate someone.

kinda but i'd be laughing at all he scts fans who thought they were better then us, rather then yay the result.

Honestly it would be no different then beating kazakstan or someone.

Put it this way, there would undoubably be a level of excitement if we were playing ROI or France, even if it were a friendly.

Scotland, Wales and Norn Iron, well, it's like having a kick about with the Faroe Island's tbh. No one really gives a shit unless the game has any kind of qualification significance.

That's why I think it would be a great idea to create a "Home Nations" end of season tournament. We could resurrect some old rivalries with the toy-town nations.

I reckon it would even help them to raise the standard of their football if we gave them something to play for, like the minuscule chance of winning some kind of tournament once a decade.

But we wouldn't be proclaiming it as the dawn of a new era like the Taffy's are doing.
And who the fuck is doing that?

Jeez.

Ah, I see. You're either trolling or just playing the dull stereotype of the braying Englander, putting down smaller nations.

I'd honestly be made up if they could give us a good game.

If I hadn't of already retired from International Football http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=9935705&postcount=5 I would have been eligible to play for Wales, so I'm always pleased to see them doing well for themselves. :)

I maintain though that strolling to a 3-0 friendly win over probably THE weakest Scotland team in history, is far from an achievement of note.

We lost to NI last time we played them, and didn't deserve to beat Wales last time we played at the Millennium.

And we were extremely gracious with it.

We don't seem to suffer from the delusional hysteria, and irrational hatred like our minnow neighbours do. It must be a jealousy thing.

What hysteria?

What delusional behaviour?

All we are happy for is that we won a match convincingly.

And players like Aaron Ramsey are now proving they can play at international level. The average age of the team on Sat was 22. We have hope to be competitive in the future.

Fucking hell if you want to take away that tiny grain of hope it is you who is delusional.

actually the only delusional thing that got the england fans going was telling us that the english press would be all over this if it were england. Which was horseshit.

That said I was impressed with Simon (?) Church when he played against us for Reading.

Mind you we have Jack Wilshere still to come through, and word is he's even better than RAmsey
quite a few good Welsh youngsters, they´ll have to improve their seeding though before they can think of qualifying. Cause as it is they´re in what the 4th or 5th seeding group? So they´re realistically gonna have minimum of 2 really strong teams to get past.

Interesting that Wales with sod all national league structure to speak of are evidently producing better young players than Scotland these days.

Ramsey ran the game Sat a la Fabregas.

Wilshere as good as he is, is a different type of player.

Adam Matthews is going to the Arse in Jan. He's the best teenage full back I've seen since Cashley made his debut.

Totally agree with this!!

West Ham are doing a fair amount to aid that, mind you. Collison is about as Welsh as me but chose Wales cos he thought he'd never be England standard, which is a shame as for my money he's gonna be as good as gerrard.

And we nurtured the defensive collosus who is James collins

Northern Ireland managed to go way up the rankings quite quickly and then got drawn in a group which saw Slovakia and Slovenia who were both seeded lower come good.
