Wales vs Scotland friendly international

I think you missed his point. When England beat anyone 3-0 the English media go nuts and add extra column inches.

When other British teams do well its largely ignored.

Typical ABE bias

That's just not true though is it ?

England have won by more than 3 goals 6 times in the last year. The only one the media were remotely excited by was the 5-1 demolition of Croatia. A competitive qualifier, against a team ranked above us, in a match we were not necessarily expected to even get anything from.

You just cannot compare the situation.

On the other hand it always works the other way. If we only managed to beat a team ranked as lowly as Scotland by a single goal, the press would be massively on our backs. Heaven forbid we should "do a Wales" and fail to even qualify for a tournament.

Anyway, I imagine there is plenty of hysterical delusion enthusiasm within the Welsh press and media for such a mediocre stunning result. :D

I do think Wales have got some good players now, but let's see them produce these performances in games that matter. For some reason they always seem to do it in the friendlies and dead rubber qualifiers, like the 6-2 in in Slovakia last year

Scotland were shit, but that doesnt take away anything from the Wales B team that turned out

well done the Wales. I have no beef with being stuffed by an enthusiastic and hungry team

I was at the game as always supporting Scotland and it's bloody tough going. They were complete and utter shite.

They looked like a team that have never met before let alone played together.

Representing your country should be the highlight of any players career, it is why club football exists. Do well and you get to represent your nation. Why oh bloody why do we stick out 11 players who clearly could not give a flying fuck. We had circa 4000 fans in Cardiff, everyone of those men, women and children would give anything to play for the dark blues, why can the players not fucking understand this and have a little pride. They are a national disgrace.

As for Burley, I've stuck with him long enough. I'm a Hearts fan so have 8 fond memories of him so I really wanted to give him a chance but this is the last straw. The Celtic defence is as weak as it has probably EVER been so what does Burley do? Start 3 of their defenders and leave probably our best young talent Lee Wallace sitting on the bench. Kenny fucking Miller, why is he starting, why is he even called up? He is a useless fucking cunt. Faddy - has scored some great goals and given us many great memories but he's a fucking over rated little shite that needs to knuckle down and start putting in some shifts. NO ONE is bigger than Scotland, we have too many egos.

ARGHHH!!!

On a side note, as for the guy asking about fractions in the Tartan Army about the OF divide, you will in the main, find that everyone supporting Scotland is there for Scotland first and foremost. Nae club colours. Ever. And if the situation of a discussion about clubs comes up, its all good in the hood due to the fact we're there to support Scotland.

Cardiff was a great place and would love to go back actually, really enjoyed my time and even managed to get my puss in the papers!

Sorry for the disjointed post. The trip was great but the football was woeful and once I start ranting... ARGH.

Beaten by a pub team's reserves...:facepalm::cool::o

Was talking to a scott at half time who was a Hibs fan.

When asked if he thought Celtic an Rangers joining the prem had been a bad idea he replied

"I wish they would just fuck off, Scotland would be better off without them. They cause all the trouble in Scottish football"

Fucking right. Hibees are twats but that guy is spot on.

if England beat a team as shit as Scotland in a friendly nobody would give a flying fuck.

Are you seriously suggesting that there's not thousands of England fans wouldn't love to see their team crush Scotland?

I didn´t say actual Scotland. I said a team as shit as Scotland. For example Lithuania or Belarus.

And no, I still don´t think we´d get that excited about crushing Scotland.

Oh maybe some older fans who remember the Home Internationals would but Scotland have been nothing for years and haven't even been to the finals of an international tournament since the internet was available.

depends though. Beating the Scots in the ´00 playoffs is long forgotten, whereas Gazza´s moment of genius against a good Scottish team is remembered.

So on that basis you think there'd be no taunting, no piss taking, no relishing of the victory and not much interest at the game?

Decades of matches between the two teams would seem to prove you wrong on that score.

Either way though, beating a team like scotland given the state they're in atm, does not mean that this is a 'turning point in a countries history', as it was put earlier in the thread.

As for us english getting excited about beating them these days, sure it would give some joy but nothing i would feel like gloating about atm. Unless it wasn't a friendly, ofcourse.

no, we won the second leg at wembley

England went through on goal difference

so you really are counting "winning" the 2nd leg at Wembley as a win, even though it eliminated you from the tournament :D:D:D

ladies and gentlemen, the followers of a footballing powerhouse have spoken!

Now that is bollocks, I'm afraid.
take our conversation for instance. You actually remember being knocked out at Wembley as a positive experience, that you beat the old enemy. I, on the other hand, could barely recall what year that playoff was, and only guessed at 2000 cause I remembered that Keegan was in charge and Paul Scholes scored at Hampden.

That is, Scotland being knocked out means more to you than England actually qualifying by knocking Scotland out means to me.
