I think Sven needs to change the system of play to suit the player available, and most of the key players play at club level in a sort of 4-3-2-1 formation. Now with England it's becoming more and more clear that Rooney is our star man and the one who the team needs to be built around. He's working wonders for Man Utd with Ronaldo alongside him just behind RVN. Swap those two for SWP and Owen and you've got a front 3. Then you've got 3 central midfielders, 2 of whom kind of have to be Lampard and Gerrard, leaving another to hold and distribute while they roam forward. This would seem to suit Carrick ideally as he can spread play very well from deep and is getting better at breaking the opposition up. No there's no Beckham because whilst he sells a lot of shirts a deep-lying right midfielder doesn't fit in and no way would you put him in ahead of Lampard or Gerrard.
