Waking The Dead: BBC

cheers. It played out well, I thought.

Slightly amused by the exotic locations all within 1/2 mile of Television Centre but gwad bless 'em for making it real.

Yeah...roll the end credits to see a "BBC" slate rather than some indie producion company as is the norm thesedays....explains the 'local' locations. :)

Thanks urbs for flagging this up. Never seen it before - probably put off because I never got on with CSI.

Awesome. Just finished watching "Substitute". The beginning of part 2 was about as harrowing as I can remember seeing on TV.

About to settle in for another double header filling on iPlayer. Lucky I don't have work tomorrow. :)

Just finished watching last nights, well done Boyd

The photo on the floor....gah, I had a 'fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck' moment about it. It's bloody great telly from the BBC, and I demand moar now

Yeah, it was a good *gasp* moment, despite it being predictable. Poor old Boyd.

Spencer must have noticed that he was trying to hold on... I wondered if there'd be any repercussions over that. I hate Spencer.

It is good isn't it?
I often feel a bit guilty about liking it 'cos it could be better or less crass, or....something....
but it's got more intense this series hasn't it?
quite scared the life out of the missus every week.

splendid

Well, I did all 6 in one go last night. :)

I think Sue Johnston is under stretched in that character. Possibly simply that all the characters are bit light, to allow space for Boyd to be that stereotypical maverick.

That said, the plots are superb, always have some good twists and turns and yet unravel in an easy to follow way.

Think I'll have to 'find' the previous series now. :)

She used to have a much bigger role but I think she's being phased out. What's weird as well in this series is that Felicite du Jeu (love that name) died and no one really cared whereas when the other woman team member died ages ago (am being careful not to do a spoiler for those of you who are going to backfill), they were all devastated for ages.

Waking the Dead's enjoyable stuff. However hard the BBC try to make it seem really gritty, and they do try hard, it has a homely feel.

Saw the repeat of one of the Red Riding episodes on Channel 4 about 2 weeks ago. Now that was good drama.

boyd felt guilty for that death though. and its all about boyd's guilt :D

Just saw the last episode. Loved it. Great tele.

Love AA Gill's description of Boyd:
And then there is the towering thespian that is Trevor Eve. He plays the detective. His character has, over time, got harder and angrier and darker, his motives and confusions more complex and dynamic. He makes a believable policeman of a style and type of character that has been worn smooth and thin with the repetition of so many investigative series, but not since Cracker has a copper been as compelling as the one Eve has dredged up for us.

Doesn't ring any bells. Must have been an episode I missed

see this is one of the things i meant when I said it could be crass - start the season. character gets shot in first episode, later dies.
spence decides he might have had enough before it's his turn.
she's handily replaced by the uniform copper who was there at the time who in the second nearly meets her end too.
who's next, oh yes dating a psycho who nearly harvest your organs but thinks better of it. let's leave him to his just desserts eh?
suprise cancer but that's not enough is it kidnap and near murder too!
all of it fuelling Boyd's nightmare existence.

I mean. I like the show but don't you ever think fuck's sake can't you solve a crime from years ago without one of your team nearly dying? get a grip.

What, so they can all head home early, get a nice cuppa and watch Eastenders? Well.. yeah.. but it might be a bit less entertaining.

Boyd: Right, new case, grizzly murder. Bit of kiddie fiddling as well. Here are the notes from the original investigation.

Eve: Piece of piss. Look, they missed the traces of chemical 453 on his boots. It was Gemma. He abused her when she was a kid. Looks like she got her revenge.

Boyd: Nice one. Anyone fancy a pint?

DOODOODOODOODOO DODO.

Watched the two-parter 'Substitute' last night. Decent premise, good weave and script, flying in some places, very occasionally a little bogged - all imo obviously. Still very good.

I've been looking at the writers and it's interesting to see how they've changed through the years, almost always someone alone per storyline - though I assume Barbara Machin has always had final say.

.

not neccesarily. constant peril is not absolutely mandatory for it to be entertaining - it's getting as silly as spooks
