Vote to rebuild the Skylon!

from the photos posted here it looks unremarkable, but that's because neither give the full sense of the structure - ie that it's suspended in mid air.

here's a clearer photo:

My opinion - I think it would freak me out a bit. I hope they don't put it next to somewhere I'd want to go. I might think twice about going past it.

Looking at this photo makes me feel a bit sick:

Looks like a grasshopper structure. Or a lunar lander. Not THAT revolutionary I wouldn't have thought.

But yeh - looks cool in those pics. Dont think it'd fit it with London's contemporary skyline though.

Ahem what exactly is this 'skylon'?

Edit: Just checked wikipedia... So thats why that restaurant is called Skylon.

well up until this being in the news I'd never heard of the structure but hell yeah bring it back!

Proof that journalists do scour U75 for stories. I've just been emailed by a hack writing a story on the Skylon.

"I am working on a piece about the campaign to rebuild the Skylon. I came across your posts on Urban 75 about the Skylon and it'd be great to talk to you a bit about your thoughts on the campaign."

I like it, I dont have any issue with bringing it back . . . but surely we could have something equally as amazing but new and unique?

A spiral for example.

Yes, I noticed that too! Why can't we have one of those instead?
:D

BTW, is there a clause anywhere on Urban which says journalists can't quote from the boards in their stories? I just turned the guy down - wishing him good luck with his story of course - because I'd just rather not get involved, and I wouldn't want to see the few comments made here lifted. Is there anything to stop a writer from doing that, apart from their own personal code of ethics?

I would prefer something new rather than something old they demolished.

Comes across as if they are lacking some ideas?
