Vote labour to keep the tories out?

Yeah, I've heard it lots of late. Loads have never lived under a Tory government before, so maybe a harsh Tory government might do some good and get people off their arses etc.

You may be right but i dunno, it seems the country in general has just given up and i dunno if anything would shake em...

You've hear loads of ultra lefts saying that? With their influence? What ultra-lefts?

Oh yeah, you just made it up as well.

This is exactly the pathetic vote labour because the tories are coming shit i was talking about.

see your point but i'm curious, where actually do YOU stand on politics? I've read hundreds of posts which criticise but not actually any stating what you believe in?

Plaid should pick up votes, how popular the SNP at the moment?

Plaid is the natural replacement for the Labour Party in Wales as the dominant social-democratic party. It's a slow, gradual process though. The aim for Plaid Cymru is to continue to increase its support at every election since 2005. These are exciting times for the nationalists though, they are buoyant, their Ministers in the Welsh Govt are popular and they have bravely started talking about independence again.

Still, I personally cannot predict how the Euro elections will go in Wales. Labour could finish 1st or they could finish 4th, it is that wide open.

Voting Labour would be like going back to an abusive partner because loneliness scares you more.

The Tories *will* leave you very alone, but it's time to just walk away from Labour - it barely even matters which direction at this point, because all roads lead to Neo-liberal City anyway...

Well put. I'm disenfranchised anyway, so I won't be voting unless a voting card comes along for an ex-tenant.

How you doing in the Valleys nowadays?

Recent by-elections have seen the labour vote hold up very well, even on a lowered turnout. This suggests that rather than people staying at home or voting for other parties they're prepared to vote labour again on a keep the tories out basis. Are people on here thinking in these terms? (Obv mean in a general election, not euros). Are you voting labour 'reluctantly'?
Nope. I won't be voting Labour at all.

You've hear loads of ultra lefts atying that? With their influence? Oh yeah, you just made it up as well.

I wouldn't say 'loads' but I've heard a variation on this many times in the recent past whether or not Tories winning is linked is, ie harsher conditions might provoke a reaction full stop re: the recession.

You don't live in that inch anymore btw - show me the difference.

Well it is hard to point at it right now at the Tories are very vague on policy and seem much more concerned with presentation but I tend to go with TBaldwin's view on the first page - I reckon they'll probably still be looking to attack workers a bit more than Labour. If it doesn't look that way come election time then I might change my mind. But I doubt it. For example, we've been running a campaign over on Royal Mail Chat, letter writing to MPs over the Royal Mail part-privatisation plan to get them to sign the EDMs and pledge to vote against it. Loads of the Tories wouldn't sign it and some wrote back saying that the only thing wrong with the plan it that it isn't full privatisation!

As I say, I remember the dying days of last Tory government and certainly in 1997 they were slagging off the idea of a minimum wage, doubt they would have introduced tax credits or surestart and so on.

The seat I live in is ultra-marginal (retiring Labour MP for a seat which, due to slight boundary changes has either a notional Tory majority, or a Labour majority of about 30). It's therefore going to be one almighty bunfight, but I shan't be voting Labour on any account; the only difference between them and the Tories is the colour of the rosettes. A plague on both their houses.

On a personal note, any job I get in the near future is going to be heavily reliant on Working Tax Credits and knowing the Tories, I can't imagine that staying around for much longer under them. That could sway me.

WTC is complicated and expensive to administer. It's principally aimed at people who would never vote Conservative no matter what so there is no point in trying to appease them. It's history.

if they straight forwardly scrapped it they would make loads of working people unemployed/ forced to quit jobs. I don't think that would be attractive, but I can imagine it being lowered and then phased out.

Hmmm, I'm in Cardiff west which seems to be a relatively safe Labour seat currently held by Kevin Brennan (didn't vote for him last time - spoilt ballot paper and won't vote for him this time either for whatever difference it will make). Another tory government is a truly horrendous thing to contemplate but the mainstream alternatives are pretty shite too.

I would rather nail my scrotum to the floor than vote labour. I'm hoping a canvasser calls so I can tell him why.

Tomorrow's poll from The Times:

GE voting intention

CON 41
LAB 21 (LOL)
LD 15

Euro voting intention

CON 30
UKIP 19
LAB 16
LD 12
GREEN 10
BNP 5

Decent showing from the Prius Owners' Club. Labour are fucked.
